Hand function declines with age, and therefore, by implication, after the menopause. The simple ageing process clearly affects both women and men, but women may experience more of a decline of hand function in older age. This is not readily explained in terms of straightforward ageing, but women are more likely to be adversely affected by diseases such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Hormonal influences, particularly in osteoarthritis, may be the reason for women experiencing more severe disease. Both arthritides are multi-factorial in their aetiology, and the same is true of the declining hand function that is seen as part of the ageing process.

In general, ghrelin is known as one of the orexigenic hormones in mammals. On the other hand, it has been shown that ghrelin inhibits water intake, which appear to be inconsistent with its role in the feeding response. In this study, the effect of ghrelin on water intake was comprehensively addressed using conscious seawater-acclimated eels known as an experimental model for water drinking behaviour.

In 2024, CD19-CAR T cells are ubiquitous in rheumatology, with incredible therapeutic results in cases of severe and refractory disease. This major advance confirms the interest of the B lymphocyte as a therapeutic target, and also suggests the real possibility of a drug-free remission, at the price of minor and minimal side effects for the time being. However, the necessary perspective is still lacking for a therapy that remains out of reach because of its price.
