A methodology for assessing perceptions of a product through cost-benefit analysis is demonstrated in an experimental study involving use of one of two products for supporting interaction with telephone voice menu systems. The method emphasizes ratings of constructs related to costs and benefits considered relevant to decisions regarding product adoption, and the use of the analytic hierarchy process technique to derive subjective importance weights associated with those constructs. Twenty-five younger subjects (18-39 years of age) and 27 older subjects (60-82 years of age) interacted with simulated telephone voice menu systems supported by either a screen phone or a graphical device. Although analysis of the benefit-cost ratios revealed that benefits were perceived as more important than costs, the analysis of the constituent item ratings and importance weights provided potentially more useful information for predicting product adoption.

Importance: Pediatric peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) insertion can be difficult and time-consuming, frequently requiring multiple insertion attempts and often resulting in increased anxiety, distress, and treatment avoidance among children and their families. Ultrasound-guided PIVC insertion is a superior alternative to standard technique (palpation and visualization) in high-risk patients.
Objective: To compare first-time insertion success of PIVCs inserted with ultrasound guidance compared with standard technique (palpation and visualization) across all risk categories in the general pediatric hospital population.

This study evaluates three Machine Learning (ML) models-Temporal Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (TKAN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and Temporal Convolutional Networks (TCN)-focusing on their capabilities to improve prediction accuracy and efficiency in streamflow forecasting. We adopt a data-centric approach, utilizing large, validated datasets to train the models, and apply SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) to enhance the interpretability and reliability of the ML models. The results show that TKAN outperforms LSTM but slightly lags behind TCN in streamflow forecasting.

This study illustrates the utility of a mixed-methods approach in assessing the value of an example novel technology-biosensor-integrated self-reporting arteriovenous grafts (smart AVGs). Currently in preclinical development, the device will detect arteriovenous graft stenosis (surveillance-only use case) and treat stenosis (interventional use case). The approach to value assessment adopted in this study was multifaceted, with one stage informing the next and comprised a stakeholder engagement with clinical experts to explore the device's clinical value, a cost-utility analysis (CUA) from a US Medicare perspective to estimate pricing headroom, and an investment model estimating risk-adjusted net present value analysis (rNPVs) to determine commercial viability.
