A microchemical reaction method involving microdroplets is proposed. Microdroplets are formed in a chemically stable medium on electric panel devices. These devices are substrates which have electrode arrays or electrode dots, and its surfaces are coated by an insulating film (such as Teflon or polypropylene) to prevent discharge and electrolysis of solutions. Microdroplets can be separately manipulated by a traveling electric field, which arises on applying a sequential voltage to the electrodes. Droplets moved smoothly at 1 Hz and voltage 400 V(0-p). Reagents were then put in droplets that were collided and coalesced, resulting in chemical reactions that included alkalization of phenolphthalein and the luciferin-luciferase reaction.

Background: The inheritance of the short allele, encoding the serotonin transporter (SERT) in humans, increases susceptibility to neuropsychiatric and metabolic disorders, with aging and female sex further exacerbating these conditions. Both central and peripheral mechanisms of the compromised serotonin (5-HT) system play crucial roles in this context. Previous studies on SERT-deficient (Sert) mice, which model human SERT deficiency, have demonstrated emotional and metabolic disturbances, exacerbated by exposure to a high-fat Western diet (WD).

[Tc]Technetium and Rhenium Dithiocarbazate Complexes: Chemical Synthesis and Biological Assessment.

Pharmaceutics

January 2025

Laboratory of Nuclear Medicine (LIM-43), Hospital das Clinicas HCFMUSP, Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade de Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo 05403-911, SP, Brazil.

Background/objectives: Dithiocarbazates (DTCs) and their metal complexes have been studied regarding their property as anticancer activities. In this work, using S-benzyl-5-hydroxy-3-methyl-5-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pirazol-1-carbodithionate (Hbdtc), we prepared [ReO(bdtc)(Hbdtc)] and [[Tc]TcO(bdtc)(Hbdtc)] complexes for tumor uptake and animal biodistribution studies.

Methods: Re complex was prepared by a reaction of H2bdtc and (NBu)[ReOCl], the final product was characterized by IR, H NMR, CHN, and MS-ESI.

Application of Light-Responsive Nanomaterials in Bone Tissue Engineering.

Pharmaceutics

January 2025

Department of Orthopedics, Shanghai Pudong Hospital, Fudan University Pudong Medical Center, 2800 Gongwei Road, Pudong, Shanghai 201300, China.

The application of light-responsive nanomaterials (LRNs) in bone tissue engineering shows broad prospects, especially in promoting bone healing and regeneration. With a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of bone defects and healing disorders, LRNs are receiving increasing attention due to their non-invasive, controllable, and efficient properties. These materials can regulate cellular biological reactions and promote bone cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation by absorbing specific wavelengths of light and converting them into physical and chemical signals.

: Since 2008, following clinical studies conducted on children that revealed the ability of the β-adrenergic antagonist propranolol to inhibit capillary growth in infantile hemangiomas (IHs), its oral administration has become the first-line treatment for IHs. Although oral propranolol therapy at a dosage of 3 mg/kg/die is effective, it can cause systemic adverse reactions. This therapy is not necessarily applicable to all patients.
