Over the past several years, I noted an increased demand for shorter-scar breast reductions. I started to perform the vertical scar/medial pedicle breast reduction in January of 2001. Since that time, 120 procedures were performed, and these cases are the basis for this study. Over the time period of this study, there was a learning curve. I first started performing the procedure only on smaller reductions (<600 g each side) and now perform the short scar reduction for most patients having <1000 g removed from each side. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the technical points required to make the transition to short-scar breast reduction easy and reliable.

Triaging mammography with artificial intelligence: an implementation study.

Breast Cancer Res Treat

January 2025

Google Health, 1600 Amphitheatre Pkwy, Mountain View, CA, 94043, USA.

Purpose: Many breast centers are unable to provide immediate results at the time of screening mammography which results in delayed patient care. Implementing artificial intelligence (AI) could identify patients who may have breast cancer and accelerate the time to diagnostic imaging and biopsy diagnosis.

Methods: In this prospective randomized, unblinded, controlled implementation study we enrolled 1000 screening participants between March 2021 and May 2022.

To gain further insights into the importance of the unsaturated 1,4-ketoaldehyde moiety of ophiobolin A (OpA) for the potency and selectivity observed toward cancer stem cells, several derivatives were synthesized through controlled reduction and oxidations of the unsaturated aldehyde and ketone moieties. Structure elucidation of these new OpA derivatives was achieved through detailed NMR studies and comparison to OpA and known isolated congeners possessing variations in these regions. The relative stereochemistry of the newly generated stereocenters was determined by coupling constants in conjunction with conformational analyses (DFT) of the synthetic derivatives.

PDE4 inhibitor rolipram represses hedgehog signaling via ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis of GLI transcription factors to regress breast cancer.

Aberrant activation of the hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway positively correlates with progression, invasion and metastasis of several cancers, including breast cancer. Although numerous inhibitors of the Hh signaling pathway are available, several oncogenic mutations of key components of the pathway, including Smoothened (Smo), have limited their capability to be developed as putative anti-cancer drugs. In this study, we have modulated the Hh signaling pathway in breast cancer using a specific FDA-approved phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor rolipram.

In this study, the effects of ultrasound treatment on bioactive components and functional properties of hawthorn vinegar (Crataegus tanacetifolia) were investigated. Parameters such as total phenolic compound (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), ascorbic acid (AA), DPPH radical scavenging activity and CUPRAC reducing capacity were optimised by surface response method (RSM) and 14 min duration and 61.40 % amplitude were determined as the most suitable treatment conditions.

Given the absence of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (Her-2) in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells, the efficacy of targeted therapies is limited. In this study, we uncovered that triptolide (TP) effectively suppresses the migration and invasiveness of MDA-MB-231 cells by activating autophagic pathways. Western blotting analysis revealed that TP significantly reduced the expression levels of p62 protein, while simultaneously markedly increasing the expression levels of LC3B-II, BNIP3, BNIP3L, ATG5, and ULK1 proteins, strongly suggesting an enhancement of autophagic activity in the cells.
