Introduction: Schools are an important setting for supporting children's development of food literacy, but minimal research has assessed which strategies are most suitable for school nutrition education. The Foodbot Factory intervention, consisting of serious game (ie, a digital game designed for education) and curriculum-based lesson plans, was developed to support teachers and children ages 8-12 with nutrition education. Pilot data have demonstrated that Foodbot Factory can significantly improve children's nutrition knowledge, but it has not yet been evaluated in classrooms.

Noncanonical inhibition of topoisomerase II alpha by oxidative stress metabolites.

Redox Biol

January 2025

University of Chicago, Department of Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology, 929 E. 57th Street, Chicago, IL, 60637, USA. Electronic address:

During its catalytic cycle, the homodimeric ATPase topoisomerase II alpha (TOP2A) cleaves double stranded DNA and remains covalently bound to 5' ends via tyrosine phosphodiester bonds. After passing a second, intact duplex through, TOP2A rejoins the break and releases from the DNA. Thereby, TOP2A can relieve strain accumulated during transcription, replication and chromatin remodeling and disentangle sister chromatids for mitosis.

chitinase-like protein orchestrates cyst wall glycosylation to facilitate effector export and cyst turnover.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

Department of Molecular Microbiology, Washington University in St. Louis, School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO 63130.

bradyzoites reside in tissue cysts that undergo cycles of expansion, rupture, and release to foster chronic infection. The glycosylated cyst wall acts as a protective barrier, although the processes responsible for formation, remodeling, and turnover are not understood. Herein, we identify a noncanonical chitinase-like enzyme TgCLP1 that localizes to micronemes and is targeted to the cyst wall after secretion.

Coherence scanning interferometry (CSI) is a non-destructive method for measuring the microstructure surface topography, but it fails to retrieve the bottom topography because the detection light is blocked by the sidewalls of the high aspect ratio (HAR) samples. Our team has proposed CSI technology with the detection light transparent to the sample to measure the surface topography thus ensuring the numerical aperture of the detection light with high throughput. However, a dedicated optical path to monitor the aberrations caused by the modulation from the sample is necessary and a complex optical path is added for aberration correction, which inevitably increases the design complexity and component costs of the optical system.

Design, Structure Optimization, and Preclinical Characterization of JAB-21822, a Covalent Inhibitor of KRAS.

KRAS is the most frequently mutated driver oncogene in human cancer, and KRAS mutation is commonly found in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), colorectal cancer (CRC), and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Inhibitors that covalently modify the mutated codon 12 cysteine have completed proof-of-concept studies in the clinic. Here, we describe structure-based design and cocrystal-aided drug optimization of a series of compounds with the 1,8-naphthyridine-3-carbonitrile scaffold.
