A supramolecular organosilane, 2-(3-(triethoxysilyl)propylaminocarbonylamino)-6-methyl-4[1H]pyrimidinone comprising quadruple hydrogen bonds has been synthesized in one step from commercially available starting materials. The synthesized supramolecular organosilane can be stabilized and phase-separated by dimerization via the linear array of quadruple hydrogen bonds in solution. This property of the supramolecular organosilane has been exploited to fabricate structuring materials having a superhydrophobic surface property. We have successfully generated the interconnected granular structure with adequate roughness for superhydrophobicity via sol-gel process.

Boron Clusters Escort Doxorubicin Squashing Into Exosomes and Overcome Drug Resistance.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

December 2024

College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, Wuhan University, 299 Bayi Road, Wuhan, 430072, P. R. China.

Exosome-based drug delivery holds significant promise for cancer chemotherapy. However, current methods for loading drugs into exosomes are inefficient and cost-prohibitive for practical application. In this study, boron clusters are mixed with doxorubicin (DOX) and exosomes, enabling the efficient encapsulation of DOX into exosomes through a superchaotropic effect.

The requirement for the development of advanced technologies is the need to create new functional thermostable soluble polysilsesquioxanes. Combining the potential of organosilicon chemistry and the chemistry of heterocyclic compounds is a promising direction for the formation of novel organosilicon polymer systems with new properties and new possibilities for their practical application. Using the classical method of hydrolysis and polycondensation of previously unknown trifunctional (trimethoxysilylpropyl)glutarimide in the presence or absence of an acid or base catalyst, a universal approach to the formation of new thermostable soluble polysilsesquioxanes with glutarimide side-chain groups is proposed, which forms the basis for the synthesis of polysilsesquioxane polymers with different functionality.

Enzyme stability and activity are pivotal factors for their implementation in different industrial applications. Enzyme supramolecular engineering relies on the fabrication of a tailor-made enzyme nano-environment to ensure enzyme stability without impairing activity. Cyclodextrins (CDs), cyclic oligomers of glucose, act as protein chaperones and stabilize, upon interaction with hydrophobic amino acid residues exposed at the protein surface, its three-dimensional structure.

New Monomer Capable of Dual Chemical Binding with Dentin to Improve Bonding Durability.

J Dent Res

July 2024

State Key Lab of Supramolecular Structure and Materials, College of Chemistry, Jilin University, Changchun, P.R. China.

The water-rich nature of the dentin bonding microenvironment, coupled with the stresses on the bonding interface, contributes to the hydrolytic degradation of the hybrid layer, resulting in a decline in bonding durability and, ultimately, restoration failure. Currently, the 3-step etch-and-rinse technique remains the gold standard for dentin bonding, and the bonding mechanism mainly involves a physical interaction with little chemical bonding. In this study, we have developed a siloxane-modified polyurethane monomer (SPU) with acrylate and siloxane modifications that chemically binds to both collagen and hydroxyapatite in dentin.

Water-stable organic radicals are promising photothermal conversion candidates for photothermal therapy (PTT). However, organic radicals are usually unstable in biological environments, which greatly hinders their wide application. Here, we have developed a chaotropic effect-based and photoinduced water-stable supramolecular radical (MB-2) for efficient antibacterial PTT.
