The emulsifying and stabilization efficiency of polybutadiene-b-poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(ter butylstyrene)-poly(ethylene oxide) diblock copolymers is examined in non-aqueous emulsions. These emulsions are formed by a dispersion of polyethylene glycol mixed with a cationic surfactant acting as a biocide, in a continuous phase of a thermoplastic elastomer (SEBS) dissolved in methylcyclohexane. Emulsions with controlled droplet size and excellent stability could be obtained, which by solvent evaporation lead to elastomeric films containing droplets of confined disinfecting liquids.

Emulsion droplets of silicone oil (PDMS) are widely used as antifoaming agents but, in the case of non-aqueous foams, the mechanisms responsible for the bursting of the films separating the bubbles remain unclear. We consider a ternary non-aqueous liquid mixture in which PDMS-rich microdroplets are formed by spontaneous emulsification. In order to quantitatively assess the effect of the emulsified microdroplets, we measure the lifetime of sub-micrometer-thick suspended films of these emulsions as well as the time variations of their thickness profiles.

We present soft-template encapsulation of salt hydrate phase change materials (PCMs) using modified silica particles to both stabilize emulsions and serve as initiators for organocatalyzed photoredox ATRP. The resulting core-shell structures have high core loading and are robust to thermal cycling. Critically, this strategy eliminates the need for a reagent in the core phase, thus preserving purity, and offers the ability to tailor shell composition for desired applications.

The uncontrolled disposal of the liquid lindane wastes have led to the formation of dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPL), consisting of 28 chlorinated organic compounds (COCs), contaminating soil and groundwater. Surfactant-enhanced aquifer remediation is proposed as technology to treat these sites. However, the polluted emulsion generated must be manged on-site.

In a recent letter to the editor Prof Khosravi-Darani responded to our paper ''Unravelling mechanisms of protein and lipid oxidation in mayonnaise at multiple length scales''. In our work, we observed liposomes in the continuous phase of mayonnaise. In the letter the objection was made that liposomes cannot be formed in a non-aqueous phase which, however, was not argued in our publication.
