Innovative treatment of age-related hearing loss using MSCs and EVs with Apelin.

Cell Biol Toxicol

January 2025

Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, Shenyang, 110004, China.

Utilizing single-cell transcriptome sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology, this study explores the viability of employing mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) as a therapeutic approach for age-related hearing loss (ARHL). The research demonstrates MSCs' ability to differentiate into inner ear cell subpopulations, particularly hair cells, delivering Apelin via extracellular vesicles (EVs) to promote M2 macrophage polarization. In vitro experiments show reduced inflammation and preservation of hair cell health.

Background: Radiofrequency-assisted (RF) facial rejuvenation has become a safe and reliable option for "treatment gap" patients, including (1) patients whose skin laxity is not severe enough to warrant a facelift, yet not mild enough to reliably treat with noninvasive procedures; (2) patients who have already undergone a face or neck lift and have recurrent laxity; and (3) patients who would benefit from a traditional face or neck lift but want to avoid surgery and are willing to accept a more modest improvement without extensive surgical scar burden and recovery.

Objectives: In this study we aimed to educate the reader about providing bipolar RF to various anatomic regions of the face.

Methods: A retrospective review of cases was conducted to assess the safety of zone-specific RF-assisted facial rejuvenation in S.

Introduction: A decrease in bone mineral density (BMD) accompanied by muscle weakness during aging significantly increases the probability of low-energy fracture occurrence, but it can also happen in those with a non-osteoporotic score (treatment gap). To improve the identification process of those at risk, the authors proposed using the interconnectivity between bone mineral density and muscle tissue.

Material And Methods: A total of 20,776 patient records were collected from the database in the period 2008-2021.

Revisiting Age-Related Normative Hearing Levels in Korea.

J Korean Med Sci

January 2025

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, College of Medicine, Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea.

Background: Hearing level reference values based on the results of recent audiometry have not been established for the general population of South Korea. This study aimed to evaluate the mean hearing levels of each age group and to measure the annual progression of hearing loss.

Methods: We used the database of the eighth and ninth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2020 to 2022, and included participants with normal tympanic membranes and without occupational noise exposure.
