We studied the efficacy of ibuprofen in 56 infants and children (age 0.5-12 years) with rectal temperature greater than or equal to 38.3 degrees C, using a double-blind randomized placebo-controlled design. Ibuprofen liquid was given as a single dose, 5 mg/kg to 18 patients (group I) and 10 mg/kg to 18 patients (group II); placebo was administered to 20 patients (group III). Temperature and vital signs were measured every 0.5-1.0 hours for 8 hours. Multiple blood samples were also collected over this period; ibuprofen plasma concentrations were measured by HPLC. The mean temperature was 38.3 degrees C in group I, 38.1 degrees C in group II, and 38.9 degrees C in group III during 8 hours after drug or placebo administration. The temperature was significantly lower in group I vs III (ibuprofen 5 mg/kg vs placebo) (p less than 0.0005), and group II vs III (ibuprofen 10 mg/kg vs placebo) (p less than 0.0001). The temperature was also markedly different for patients in group I vs II (ibuprofen 5 mg/kg vs ibuprofen 10 mg/kg) between 4 and 8 hours after the dose (p less than 0.01). The duration of action was longer for ibuprofen 10 mg/kg than 5 mg/kg. The mean maximum decrease from baseline temperature was 1.3 degrees C, 1.8 degrees C and 0.8 degrees C for group I, II and III, respectively. The maximum reduction in temperature occurred at 3-4 hours in the ibuprofen groups, and at 7 hours in the placebo group.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Purpose: This study longitudinally assessed the quality of life (QoL) in patients who completed chemoradiation (CRT) for cervical cancer in Botswana and compared the QoL for those living with and without HIV infection.
Methods: Patients with cervical cancer recommended for curative CRT were enrolled from August 2016 to February 2020. The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Core Quality-of-Life (QLQ-C30) and cervical cancer-specific (QLQ-Cx24) questionnaires, translated into Setswana, were used to assess the QoL of patients prior to treatment (baseline), at the end of treatment (EOT) and in 3 month intervals post-treatment for 2 years, and statistical analyses were performed.

Objective: Randomised clinical trials have demonstrated superiority of the Eluvia stent over Zilver PTX for femoropopliteal artery disease in terms of one and two year clinical outcomes, but comparative real world data beyond two years are not available. This study aimed to compare Zilver PTX and Eluvia stents and reports three year primary patency, patient outcomes, and safety results from the REALDES study.
Methods: The REALDES study was a prospective, multicentre, observational study that enrolled adult patients with symptomatic femoropopliteal disease scheduled for treatment with either Zilver PTX or Eluvia.

Background: Patella resurfacing in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) involves surgical manipulation of the extensor mechanism, which can weaken or devascularize the patellar bone, quadriceps, and patellar tendon. Patella resurfacing may, in theory, increase the risk of postoperative extensor mechanism disruption (EMD).
Methods: We systematically searched the Cochrane, Embase, and PubMed databases to identify randomized controlled trials that reported the overall incidence of complications and surgery for EMD for resurfaced and unresurfaced patellae in patients who underwent primary TKA with a 2-year follow-up.

Background: Treatment of cervical precancer may be associated with an increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. Australia introduced routine quadrivalent HPV vaccination (HPV4) in 2007, switching to nonavalent vaccination (HPV9) in 2018, and 5-yearly HPV screening in December 2017. We estimated the impact of HPV vaccination and HPV screening on precancer treatments, and thus on future preterm births (PTBs) and low birth weight (LBW) infants.

Arsenic (As) is an environmental toxicant and human carcinogen, long-term exposure to As can lead to varying degrees of liver injury. In this study, the liver injury model of As poisoned Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats was established, and the potential mechanism was investigated by metabonomics and ionomics. A total of 164 differential expressed metabolites (DEMs) were identified between the As poisoned group and the control group, which mainly involved in nicotinate and nicotinamide metabolism, steroid hormone biosynthesis, taurine and hypotaurine metabolism, and porphyrin metabolism.
