Background: The aim of the present study was to examine the correlations between androgenic sex steroids and serum lipid levels in postmenopausal women. Methods. The study group included 72 postmenopausal women. Correlation analysis between serum hormone [dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S), androstenedione, free testosterone and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG)] and lipid [total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), lipoprotein (a) [Lp (a)], apolipoprotein A-1 (apo A-1) and apolipoprotein B (apo B)] levels was performed.

Results: DHEA-S was found to be positively correlated with HDL-C (r = 0.231, p = 0.049) and negatively correlated with Lp (a) (r = - 0.355, p = 0.002). These correlations were statistically significant even after adjustment for age and body mass index (BMI) (r = 0.332, p = 0.005 and r = -0.362, p = 0.002, respectively). SHBG was positively correlated with HDL-C (r = 0.352, p = 0.002). There was a significant but weaker correlation between SHBG and HDL-C levels after controlling for age and BMI (r = 0.243, p = 0.041). No other correlations were found between sex hormone and lipid levels.

Conclusion: DHEA-S was found to be associated with a less atherogenic lipid profile in postmenopausal women.

HIV-related mortality has fallen due to scale-up of antiretroviral therapy (ART), so more women living with HIV (WLH) now live to reach menopause. Menopausal estrogen loss causes bone loss, as do HIV and certain ART regimens. However, quantitative bone data from WLH are few in Africa.

Human skin is a physical and biochemical barrier that protects the internal body from the external environment. Throughout a person's life, the skin undergoes both intrinsic and extrinsic aging, leading to microscopic and macroscopic changes in its morphology. In addition, the repair processes slow with aging, making the older population more susceptible to skin diseases.

Bone mineral density (BMD) levels achieved on osteoporosis treatment are predictive of subsequent fracture risk, and T-score > -2.5 has been proposed as a minimum treatment target for women with osteoporosis. Knowing the likelihood of attaining target T-scores with different medications for different baseline BMD levels can help determine appropriate initial treatment for individual patients.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between protein-rich foods, various nutritional supplements, and age of natural menopause and its symptoms.

Methods: This study was a large-scale cross-sectional survey. A multi-stage stratified random sampling method was used to select a sample of 52,347 residents aged 35-60 years from 26 districts/counties across 13 cities in 12 provinces in China.

Background/objectives: Facial bone density, including the jawbone, declines earlier than that of the lumbar spine and calcaneus. Calcium maltobionate is reported to mitigate bone resorption and maintain bone density of the lumbar spine in post-menopausal women, but its effects on facial bone density remain understudied. Therefore, this study compared variations in facial bone mineral density with variations in calcaneal bone mineral density and bone resorption markers among healthy women, examining differences between pre- and post-menopause and the effects of continuous calcium maltobionate intake.
