Objectives: To characterize variations in real-world treatment patterns in multiple myeloma (MM) in Portugal over a 5-year period.
Methods: A retrospective cohort multicenter study using secondary data of national hospital drug consumption database from 11 Portuguese public hospitals between 2017 and 2022.
Results: Number of MM-treated patients increased 53% over 5 years (from 825 to 1266 patients).

The Pharmacovigilance system is aimed to promote and protect public health by ensuring the availability of essential medicines in the market and reducing the burden of ADRs. Pharmacovigilance is derived from two words; pharamakon rooted in the Greek word that means medicinal substance and vigilia rooted in the Latin word to keep watch. This concept evolved after Hannah Greener died in 1848 after having a tonsillectomy with chloroform.

Background And Purpose: The poor delivery of drugs to infiltrating tumor cells contributes to therapeutic failure in glioblastoma. During the early phase of an anti-angiogenic treatment, a remodeling of the tumor vasculature could occur, leading to a more functional vessel network that could enhance drug delivery. However, the restructuration of blood vessels could increase the proportion of normal endothelial cells that could be a barrier for the free diffusion of drugs.

The evolution of cancer treatment has provided increasingly targeted strategies both in the upfront and relapsed disease settings. Small-molecule inhibitors and immunotherapy have risen to prominence with chimeric antigen receptor T-cells, checkpoint inhibitors, kinase inhibitors, and monoclonal antibody therapies being deployed across a range of solid organ and haematological malignancies. However, novel approaches are required to target transcription factors and oncogenic fusion proteins that are central to cancer biology and have generally eluded successful drug development.
