Introduction: We investigated the genetic determinants of variation in the hemoglobin glycation index (HGI), an emerging biomarker for the risk of diabetes complications.

Methods: We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) for HGI in the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) trial ( = 7,913) using linear regression and additive genotype encoding on variants with minor allele frequency greater than 3%. We conducted replication analyses of top findings in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study with inverse variance-weighted meta-analysis.

Objective: The aim of the study is to screen transcription factor genes related to the prognosis of adult patients with sepsis. Methods: Twenty-three patients with sepsis and 10 healthy individuals admitted for RNA-seq. Differential factors were enriched by four transcription factor databases, and survival analysis was adopted for core factors.

Venous thrombo-embolism (VTE) is multi-factorial disease involving several genetic and acquired risk factors responsible for its onset. It may occur spontaneously upon climbing at High Altitude (HA). Several studies demonstrated that hypoxic conditions prevailing at HA pose an independent risk factor for VTE; however, molecular mechanism remains unknown.

Background And Aim: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the most frequent causes of death in the world. Inflammation and oxidative damage contribute significantly to the development of atherosclerosis and CVDs. European Food Safety Authority scientific opinion has acknowledged that hydroxytyrosol (3,4-dihydroxyphenylethanol) and derivatives, contained in extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), typically used in Mediterranean diet may play a crucial role in the reduction of the inflammatory pathway and in the prevention of CVDs.

Polymorphisms of the upstream stimulatory factor 1 (USF1) have been associated with carotid artery intima-media thickness and coronary atherosclerotic lesions. Unstable carotid plaque is an atherosclerotic change of vascular morphology that has been correlated with cerebrovascular ischemic symptoms. Associations of three single nucleotide polymorphisms of the USF1 gene with total unstable carotid plaque area (CPA) were investigated in Chinese atherosclerotic stroke patients.
