A simplified in vitro test tube (TT) method was developed to estimate the percentage of available P in feed ingredients for swine. The entire digestion procedure with the TT method consists of three consecutive enzymatic digestions carried out in a 50-mL conical test tube: (1) Pre-digestion with endo-xylanase and beta-glucanase for 1 h, (2) peptic digestion for 2 h, and (3) pancreatic digestion for 2 or 4 h. The TT method is simpler and much easier to perform compared to the dialysis tubing (DT) method, because dialysis tubing is not used. Reducing sample size from 1.0 to 0.25 g for the TT method improved results. In conclusion, the accuracy and validity of the TT method is equal to that of our more complicated DT method (r = 0.97, P < 0.001), designed to mimic the digestive system of swine, for estimating the availability of P in plant-origin feed ingredients.

Maternal exposures are known to influence the risk of isolated cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL/P) - a common and highly heritable birth defect with a multifactorial etiology. To identify new CL/P risk loci, we conducted a genome-wide gene-environment interaction (GEI) analysis of CL/P on a sample of 540 cases and 260 controls recruited from the Philippines, incorporating the interaction effects of genetic variants with maternal smoking and vitamin use. As GEI analyses are typically low in power and the results can be difficult to interpret, we used multiple testing frameworks to evaluate potential GEI effects: 1 degree-of-freedom (1df) GxE test, the 3df joint test, and the two-step EDGE approach.

Aim: To measure the optimal anterior chamber pressure (ACP) for safe phacoemulsification using a new tube chamber system with internal pressure measurement function in the porcine eye.
Methods: The 20-gauge and 21-gauge straight tips with yellow and orange sleeves, respectively, were covered by a test chamber combined with a pressure sensor for measuring ACP. This was measured for 20s from 10s after starting aspiration in the linear mode using vacuum levels of 200 and 150 mm Hg with a 20-gauge tip, and 300 and 250 mm Hg with a 21-gauge tip.

Offshore low-permeability reservoirs are mainly composed of complex fault-block structures with poor physical properties, which makes establishing an effective displacement relationship particularly challenging. Hydraulic fracturing assisted oil displacement (HFAD) can effectively increase the oil production of a single well by creating fractures to replenish the producing energy. In this study, the Khristianovich-Geertsma-de Klerk (KGD) model is used to calculate the propagation of vertical fractures, and the flow tube method is used to calculate the two-phase oil-water flow in filtration and seepage.

Geopolymer concrete (GC) is green and environmentally friendly. In order to comprehensively study the mechanical properties and influence mechanism of geopolymer concrete-filled steel tubular (GCFST) columns under various working conditions, this study takes the strength grade of geopolymer concrete, length-diameter ratio and wall thickness of steel tube as design parameters. Eight GCFST columns are designed and the compressive performances are conducted under repeated axial compression.

Objectives: To report the neurodevelopmental outcomes after a fetoscopic myelomeningocele (MMC) repair and to compare them with children who had an open-hysterotomy repair or a postnatal repair.
Study Design: 132 infants were included (prenatal repair: 93 [69 fetoscopic and 24 open-hysterotomy]; postnatal repair: 39). Neurodevelopmental outcomes at or beyond 18 months were evaluated by a developmental pediatrician using the Capute scales (Clinical Adaptive Test [CAT]/ Clinical Linguistic & Auditory Milestone Scale [CLAMS]) and/or during parental interview using Developmental Profile 3 (DP-3) test.
