Integration of workflow, technology and architecture provides the means to enable hospital staff not only work smarter and more efficiently but also to enjoy their work experience. Patients also benefit from a planned proven outcome in a more ergonomic and pleasant environment--all of which will improve their overall healthcare experience. A process-based approach mirrors the philosophy of a Treatment Centre and we believe that it is a must within an environment of growing complexity that demands faster and improved services--all to be managed with minimal risk. Siemens structures its business according to this approach and is dedicated to helping healthcare providers around the world to improve their performance by enabling truly synchronised workflow throughout the entire healthcare enterprise. We see the massive opportunities for radical efficiency gains in our day-to-day work--all it needs is an early-phase integration of workflow, technology and the physical environment.

The importance of genomic surveillance strategies for pathogens has been particularly evident during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, as genomic data from the causative agent, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2), have guided public health decisions worldwide. Bayesian phylodynamic inference, integrating epidemiology and evolutionary biology, has become an essential tool in genomic epidemiological surveillance. It enables the estimation of epidemiological parameters, such as the reproductive number, from pathogen sequence data alone.

Highly efficient isolation and multistep analysis of tumor cells from whole blood.

Lab Chip

March 2025

Robert Bosch GmbH, Corporate Sector Research and Advance Engineering, Robert-Bosch-Campus 1, 71272 Renningen, Germany.

We present a microfluidic solution for improved tumor cell analysis based on selection-free isolation of nucleated cells from whole blood. It consists of a high-density silicon microcavity array combined with the novel fluidic strategy of microfluidic decanting. This enables multistep on-chip staining protocols comprising sample loading-blocking-extracellular staining-fixation-permeabilization and intracellular staining to quantify tumor cells.

Healthcare Practitioners' Perceptions of mHealth Application Barriers: Challenges to Adoption and Strategies for Enhancing Digital Health Integration.

Healthcare (Basel)

February 2025

Department of Health Informatics, College of Applied Medical Sciences, Qassim University, Buraydah 52571, Saudi Arabia.

Background: Mobile health (mHealth) applications have transformed healthcare delivery by enhancing accessibility, patient monitoring, and clinician communication. Despite these advantages, significant barriers hinder their adoption among healthcare practitioners, limiting their effectiveness in primary care settings. Understanding these barriers is crucial for optimizing mHealth integration into healthcare systems.

Protein kinases are key regulators of cellular processes and critical therapeutic targets in diseases like cancer, making them a focal point for drug discovery efforts. In this context, we developed KinasePred, a robust computational workflow that combines machine learning and explainable artificial intelligence to predict the kinase activity of small molecules while providing detailed insights into the structural features driving ligand-target interactions. Our kinase-family predictive tool demonstrated significant performance, validated through virtual screening, where it successfully identified six kinase inhibitors.
