OBJECTIVE:To inquire into the influence of three different treatment of the etched enamel on bracket bonding effect. METHODS:Compared the bracket bonding failure rate and ARI counts of 30 cases which treat the etched enamel surface with 5s air-water gun rinsing, wet cotton ball wiping and alcohol cotton ball wiping respectively. RESULTS: The bracket bonding failure rate of the group which rinse the etched enamel 5s with air-water gun in the lowest one. There are statistically significant difference between this group and two others. The ARI count of this group is higher than that of others. CONCLUSION:The results suggest that rinse the etched enamel with the air-water gun is a very important step to prevent the bracket bonding failure.

Background: Preventive dental procedures are cornerstones of caries management.

Introduction: This research aims to analyze the clinical effectiveness of pit and fissure sealants when applied to etched enamel pretreated with solvents compared to the conventional etch and seal technique.

Subjects And Methods: Children and adolescents with clinically healthy occlusal surfaces or noncavitated occlusal carious lesions on permanent first and/or second molars in all four quadrants were randomly allocated into four groups.

Effect of Application Mode and Aging on Microtensile Bond Strength of Universal Adhesives to Enamel of Primary Teeth.

Int J Paediatr Dent

Department of Paediatric Dentistry, Medical Centre for Dentistry, University Medical Centre Giessen and Marburg GmbH (Campus Giessen), Justus-Liebig-University, Giessen, Germany.

Background: Limited reports are available regarding bonding of universal adhesives to primary teeth' enamel.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of application mode and aging on microtensile bond strength (μTBS) of universal adhesives to primary enamel.

Design: Ninety-six human primary molars were randomly assigned to three groups: SU: Scotchbond Universal (3M); CU: Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (Kuraray Noritake); iBU: iBond Universal (Heraeus Kulzer), then subdivided according to phosphoric acid etching time into three subgroups (SG): SG1: 0s; SG2: 15s; SG3: 30s.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how different surface treatments affect the color of enamel and dentin in teeth.
  • It found that prolonged acid-etching significantly altered the color of enamel, exceeding acceptable limits, while dentin color remained stable regardless of treatment.
  • The research suggests that clinicians should minimize acid-etching time to prevent undesirable color changes in enamel for better aesthetic outcomes.

Objectives: To evaluate the self-etch bonding potential of universal adhesive systems with varying acidic compositions by analyzing the wettability properties, topographical change, and microshear bond strength (µSBS) to enamel.

Methods: Eight universal adhesives were tested: All-Bond Universal (Bisco), Ambar Universal (FGM), Gluma Bond Universal (Kulzer), OptiBond Universal (Kerr), Peak Universal Bond (Ultradent), Prime&Bond Universal (Dentsply), Singlebond Universal (3 M ESPE), and Tetric N-Bond Universal (Ivoclar). Bovine incisors were prepared and treated with each adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions.
