A novel catalyst was synthesized by direct exchange of ferric ions onto a cationic resin (Amberlite IRA200). Upon visible light irradiation (lambda > 420 nm) in the presence of H2O2, this catalyst was found to be highly effective for the degradation of nonbiodegradable cationic dyes, Malachite green, Rhodamine B, and Methylene blue, even at neutral pH values. It was also easy to separate from the degraded solution. By total organic carbon, FT-IR, and GC-MS analysis, the degradation process of Malachite green was shown to proceed with demethylation and phenyl ring openings into CO2 and small molecular compounds. EPR studies revealed that *OH radicals, other than *OOH/O2*-, were involved as the active species. A possible reaction mechanism is proposed on the basis of all the information obtained under various experimental conditions.

Under salt stress, plasma membrane proteins regulate ion homeostasis and the balance between reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, we investigated the functions of two small membrane proteins-MsRCI2B (tailless) and MsRCI2E (tailed)-encoded by the RCI2 (Rare Cold Inducible 2) gene family in Medicago sativa (alfalfa). We identified the distinct subcellular localization and expression patterns of these proteins under salt stress.

Both hydrogen sulfide and endocannabinoids can protect the neural retina from toxic insults under in vitro and in vivo conditions. The aim of the present study was two-fold: (a) to examine the neuroprotective action of cannabinoids [methanandamide and 2-arachidonyl glycerol (2-AG)] against hydrogen peroxide (HO)-induced oxidative damage in the isolated bovine retina and (b) to evaluate the role of endogenously biosynthesized hydrogen sulfide (HS) in the inhibitory actions of cannabinoids on the oxidative stress in the bovine retina. Isolated neural retinas from cows were exposed to oxidative damage using HO (100 µM) for 10 min.

Catalytically active nanomaterials, or nanozymes, have gained significant attention as alternatives to natural enzymes due to their low cost, ease of preparation, and enhanced stability. Because of easy preparation, excellent biocompatibility, and unique optoelectronic properties, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have attracted increasing attention in many fields, including nanozymes. In this work, we demonstrated the applicability of beta-cyclodextrin functionalized gold nanoparticles (β-CD-AuNPs) as enzyme mimics for different substances, including TMB and DA.

The absence of efficient on-farm interventions against white spot syndrome viral (WSSV) infections can cause significant economic losses to shrimp farmers. With this exploratory study we aimed to test, both in vitro and in vivo, the efficacy of an organic acid mixture (Aq) against WSSV infections in shrimp. In vitro, using shrimp gut primary cells (SGP), 2% Aq significantly reduced WSSV infection and the amounts of HO released but had no impact on CAT and SOD expression.

The water channel AQP3 is an aquaglyceroporin expressed in villus epithelial cells, and it plays a role in water transport across human colonic surface cells. Beyond water, AQP3 can mediate glycerol and HO transport. Abnormal expression and function of AQP3 have been found in various diseases often characterized by altered cell growth and proliferation.
