Background: A single umbilical artery (SUA) in a fetus may be associated with hydronephrosis.
Cases: We describe 2 cases of SUA, one of which had severe hydronephrosis with ascites and was stillborn. The other case was born alive with a unilateral hydroureter and is being managed with close monitoring.
Conclusion: Detection of SUA on antenatal ultrasound should prompt a careful search for urinary tract abnormalities, as associated severe hydronephrosis may lead to a poor outcome.

Sample pretreatment for mass spectrometry (MS)-based metabolomics and lipidomics is normally conducted independently with two sample aliquots and separate matrix cleanup procedures, making the two-step process sample-intensive and time-consuming. Herein, we introduce a high-throughput pretreatment workflow for integrated nontargeted metabolomics and lipidomics leveraging the enhanced matrix removal (EMR)-lipid microelution 96-well plates. The EMR-lipid technique was innovatively employed to effectively separate and isolate non-lipid small metabolites and lipids in sequence using significantly reduced sample amounts and organic solvents.

Purpose: The emergence of minimally invasive surgery has led to the development of laparoscopic surgery to reduce the number of ports. Although the incision for the umbilical port is sufficiently large, thus reducing the number of ports used during laparoscopic surgery, postoperative complications involving incisions at port sites have been reported. Thus, we analyzed postoperative intraperitoneal outcomes after laparoscopy by reviewing operation records and photographs of consecutive surgeries.

Rotator cuff tendon injuries often lead to shoulder pain and dysfunction. Traditional treatments such as surgery and physical therapy can provide temporary relief, but it is difficult to achieve complete healing of the tendon, mainly because of the limited repair capacity of the tendon cells. Therefore, it is particularly urgent to explore new treatment methods.

Introduction: Regional anesthetic blocks are an adjunct to decrease pediatric opioid utilization and improve perioperative pain control. We compared opioid use in patients who underwent umbilical hernia repair (UHR) with or without preoperative bilateral rectus sheath block (BRSB).
Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study evaluating opioid use in patients <18 years who underwent an UHR.
