Objective: To explore the effect of Dogwood fruits on tonifying kidney-yang.

Method: The effect of the water extract of Dogwood fruits on rats model of kidney-yang deficiency with the hydrocortisone was observed.

Result: The water extract of Dogwood fruits could make normal the liver weight, and mitigate hepatocyte pathologic changes, increase the heptocellular levels of RNA and hepatin, and decrease the malondialdehyde (MDA) in rats model of kidney-yang deficiency. It could also make the viscera quotiety return to normal way and increase the levels of RNA in the interstitial cells of testicle in rats model of kidney-yang deficiency.

Conclusion: Water extract of Dogwood fruits can protect and improve the functions of the liver and testicle in rats model of kidney-yang deficiency.

Article Synopsis
  • The dried fruits of Cornus officinalis are utilized in Kampo medicine to address conditions related to aging, including osteoporosis, diabetes, and gastrointestinal issues.
  • A study examined the effects of a C. officinalis extract and the compound morroniside on digestive motility and gastric ulcers in mice, finding that both helped improve gastric emptying and reduce diarrhea.
  • Results indicate that morroniside may effectively treat gastrointestinal disorders like irritable bowel syndrome by regulating stress-related hormone levels, which suggests it could be beneficial for conditions triggered by stress or certain substances.

National Institute for Research-Development of Biological Sciences, Centre of Bioanalysis, 296 Spl. Independentei, P.O. Box 17-16, 060031 Bucharest, Romania.

The present study evaluated three green extraction methods, accelerated solvent extraction (ASE), ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), and laser irradiation extraction (LE), for the polyphenolic compounds and vitamin C extraction of L. and fruit extracts. The polyphenols and vitamin C of extracts were quantified using HPLC-DAD, and the total phenolic content, flavonoid content, antioxidant activity (DPPH and reducing power), and antidiabetic activity were also studied.

Premise: Characterization and phylogenetic integration of fossil angiosperms with uncertain affinities is relatively limited, which may obscure the diversity of extinct higher taxa in the flowering plant tree of life. The order Cornales contains a diversity of extinct taxa with uncertain familial affinities that make it an ideal group for studying turnover in angiosperms. Here, we describe a new extinct genus of Cornales unassignable to an extant family and conduct a series of phylogenetic analyses to reconstruct relationships of fossils across the order.

Electronic address:

Corni fructus (CF) is always subjected to wine processing before prescription in clinic, for an enhancing effect of nourishing liver and kidney. While, the underlying mechanism for this processing on CF remains obscure. In this study, a sensitive ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method combined multi-dimensional analyses was established to monitor chemical characterizations of raw and wine-processed CF (WCF) and hence reveal the effects and underlying mechanism of wine processing on CF.
