Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disease with a number of immunological aberrations in the mechanisms of innate and adaptive immune responses. Spontaneous and induced mouse models of the disease have contributed significantly to the advancement in lupus treatments. The involvement of humanized models, engrafted with lupus patients' immune cells, represented the possibility to study the development of SLE.

A stromal inflammasome Ras safeguard against Myc-driven lymphomagenesis.

Nat Immunol

January 2025

Jill Roberts Institute for Research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Weill Cornell Medicine, Cornell University, New York, NY, USA.

The inflammasome plays multifaceted roles in cancer, but less is known about its function during premalignancy upon initial cell transformation. We report a homeostatic function of the inflammasome in suppressing malignant transformation through Ras inhibition. We identified increased hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) proliferation within the bone marrow of inflammasome-deficient mice.

Reduced number of regulatory T cells in maternal circulation precede idiopathic spontaneous preterm labor in a subset of patients.

Am J Obstet Gynecol

December 2024

Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Neonatology, General University Hospital in Prague and First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. Electronic address:

Background: Accumulating evidence suggests that spontaneous preterm labor is a syndrome caused by multiple pathological processes. The breakdown of maternal-fetal tolerance has been proposed as a key mechanism of idiopathic spontaneous preterm labor, often viewed as a chronic inflammatory process resulting from the maternal immune system's impaired tolerance of the fetus from early pregnancy. Regulatory T cells are crucial for maintaining maternal-fetal tolerance.

Background: Interferon-γ release assays (IGRAs) for tuberculosis infection (TBI) cannot distinguish different stages of the TBI spectrum (including spontaneously cleared infection). We investigated patterns of Mtb-specific blood mediators in people with and without TBI during tuberculosis preventive therapy (TPT).

Methods: Individuals with likelihood of recent Mtb exposure, aged 15-25 years, with valid IGRA results, in whom tuberculosis (TB) had been excluded, were included.

Chronic hypertension is an increasingly prevalent condition that constitutes a risk factor for superimposed preeclampsia during pregnancy. In this study, we assessed the gut microbiome in a rat model of superimposed preeclampsia to characterize the microbial signature associated with defective placentation processes identified at the preclinical disease stage. The blood pressure profile, renal function parameters and fetal phenotype were evaluated in pregnant Stroke-prone Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats (SHRSP) and their normotensive controls.
