Certain psychiatric disorders are known to alter the body's biological rhythms. However, currently, very little information is known about the effect of chronic ethanol administration on the circadian clock or the rhythm of beta-endorphin-containing neurons that participate in the control of the reward and reinforcement of alcohol drinking. Here, we report that administration of ethanol, via a liquid diet paradigm for a period of 2 weeks, abolishes the circadian rhythm of pro-opiomelanocortin mRNA expression of beta-endorphin neurons in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus. The circadian expression of the clock governing rat period genes (rPeriod1 mRNA and rPeriod2 mRNA) in the arcuate nucleus was significantly altered, suggesting that ethanol administration disrupted the internal clock. Moreover, ethanol consumption altered the circadian rhythms of rPeriod2 and rPeriod3 mRNA levels in the suprachiasmatic nucleus, suggesting that ethanol also affected the function of the central pacemaker. Our findings identified the vulnerability of the body's clock machinery and its opioidergic system to chronic alcohol drinking.

Serious alcohol-associated hazards underscore the need to develop new biomarkers reflecting the biological changes caused by chronic alcohol use and predicting the risk of alcohol-related death. Oxidative stress is one mechanism of alcohol toxicity. The blood and urine redox status (total antioxidant capacity [TAC], total oxidative status [TOS], and oxidative stress index [OSI]) was assessed in 105 people who died a sudden death (controls), 47 people who died of alcohol overdose, and 102 people with alcohol dependency.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of aminooxyacetic acid (AOAA) on cognitive function, particularly learning and memory, in a rat model of chronic alcoholism. Additionally, the study explored changes in cystathionine β-synthase (CBS), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), and serotonin (5-HT) levels in the prefrontal cortex to understand the potential neurochemical mechanisms involved.

Background: Scalp seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic, recurrent inflammatory skin condition associated with scalp sebum secretion and dysbiosis.
Aims: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a topical salicylic acid/piroctone olamine/zinc salt of L-pyrrolidone carboxylate (Zinc PCA) scalp pre-application gel in combination with a salicylic acid/piroctone olamine/antimicrobial peptide cleansing lotion for the treatment of moderate to severe scalp SD.
Patients/methods: In this prospective cohort study, 20 patients with moderate to severe scalp SD were treated with a combination of the scalp pre-application gel and cleansing lotion for 4 weeks (one tube of the pre-application gel per week and the cleansing lotion used every 1-3 days depending on the frequency of hair washing).
