Excessive consumption of fructose (FR) leads to obesity, metabolic syndrome (MS) and insulin resistance, which are known risk factors for kidney stones. The epidemiological study has suggested the association between fructose consumption and urolithiasis, but the precise mechanism is still not well understood. Male Wistar rats were assigned for 8 weeks to three groups with different FR content in diet: RD ( = 5)-regular diet with a FR < 3%; F10 ( = 6)-regular diet with an addition of 10% Fr in drinking water; F60 ( = 5)-60% FR as a solid food.

CAGI (Critical Assessment of Genome Interpretation) conducts community experiments to determine the state of the art in relating genotype to phenotype. Here, we report results obtained using newly developed ensemble methods to address two CAGI4 challenges: enzyme activity for population missense variants found in NAGLU (Human N-acetyl-glucosaminidase) and random missense mutations in Human UBE2I (Human SUMO E2 ligase), assayed in a high-throughput competitive yeast complementation procedure. The ensemble methods are effective, ranked second for SUMO-ligase and third for NAGLU, according to the CAGI independent assessors.

In order to evaluate the milk yield, milk quality, and health of dairy cows fed a high-concentrate (HC) diet, eight lactating Holstein dairy cattle were randomly assigned to HC or low-concentrate (LC) diet groups and fed for 50 days, and the auto-control studying before and after treatment with the two diets was used. During the experiment, plasma and milk samples were collected and measured. With regard to milk component, HC feeding led to higher milk production (P < 0.

In order to evaluate the effect of high-concentrate diet supplementation on milk protein content, six Holstein dairy cows were assigned into high-concentrate diet (HC) or low-concentrate diet (LC) groups (N = 3/group) for 50 days. With regard to milk protein, HC feeding significantly reduced the percentage of milk protein (P < 0.01), and milk protein yield also reduced.

Thioredoxin (TRX) is a 12 kDa protein that is induced by oxidative stress, scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) and modulates chemotaxis. Furthermore it is thought to play a protective role in renal ischemia/reperfusion injury. Complement 5a (C5a) is a chemotactic factor of neutrophils and is produced after ischemia/reperfusion injury in the kidney.
