Background This comparative study evaluates the performance of medical/surgical and mixed intensive care units (ICUs) at a tertiary care university hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, using key performance indicators (KPIs). Since its establishment in 1982, the hospital has provided comprehensive medical services, including specialized, closed-model ICUs, including medical, surgical, and pediatric ICUs. In 2021, these ICUs transitioned to a mixed ICU model to enhance efficiency and patient care.

Background Unplanned extubation (UE) poses a significant safety risk to mechanically ventilated, preterm, and critically ill neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of UE from January 2018 to December 2021, identify contributing risk factors, and compare the outcomes with a cohort of extremely preterm (EP) infants. Methods A retrospective study was conducted in the NICU at the Women's Wellness and Research Center, Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar.

Background And Aim: Unplanned extubation (UE) is an adverse event that can occur for neonates that are intubated and mechanically ventilated. UE is recognised as an important quality measure in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) due to the negative impact these events may have on the neonate. We aimed to use quality improvement (QI) methodology to reduce the rate of UE to the global standard of <1/100 ventilation days.

Objectives: Clinical utility of rapid whole genome sequencing (rWGS) has been reported in 30-70% of pediatric ICU patients who receive a molecular diagnosis. Rapid molecular diagnostic techniques have been increasingly integrated into critical care, yet the influence of genetic test results on palliative care related decision making is largely unknown. This study evaluates palliative care related outcomes after rWGS.
