Background And Objectives: There is paucity of comprehensive data on the blood usage with regard to diagnostic categories of Asian recipients. The purpose of this study is to analyse data for blood usage in a korean university hospital in order to obtain additional information on transfusion practices in relation to diagnoses.

Materials And Methods: Data of information on patients discharged during the period from March 1996 to February 2002, who have received packed red blood cells (RBC), fresh frozen plasmas (FFP), and platelet components (PLT) were extracted from the computerized registers. We used only the principal four-digit diagnostic categories of the Tenth Revision of International Classification of Diseases.

Results: A total of 397 489 units of blood components (RBC 171 916 units; FFP 69 301 units; and PLT 156 272 units) were transfused for 17.2% of all discharged patients. Acute myeloid leukaemia, liver cell carcinoma, advanced gastric cancer, alcoholic or other unspecified cirrhosis of liver were the top 5 diagnoses related with the highest usage of blood component.

Conclusions: The results showed a different blood usage pattern compared to those of previous studies. These provide a baseline transfusion practice at our institution, and the data would help in predicting future blood needs in a variety of diagnostic categories.

Oral Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) are increasingly used in dermatology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, and hematology. While effective, they can cause adverse effects such as acne, nausea, cytopenia, dyslipidemia, and Herpes zoster. Recent reports have linked JAKi usage to weight changes, particularly weight gain, which can significantly impact patients' quality of life.

Background: More real-world data are needed to complement existing phase III studies on the efficacy and safety of recombinant factor IX Fc fusion protein (rFIXFc) in people with haemophilia B.

Objectives: We report final data from the B-SURE study, evaluating the real-world usage and effectiveness of rFIXFc in France.

Methods: Previously treated patients (all ages/severities) received on-demand or prophylactic rFIXFc during B-SURE.

Shiga toxin (Stx)-induced hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) poses a life-threatening complication for which a definitive treatment remains elusive. To exert its cytotoxic effect on renal cells, Stx must be delivered from the infected intestines to the kidney. However, the mechanism underlying Stx delivery remains unclear.

Caffeine consumption is regarded as a widespread phenomenon, and its usage has continued to increase. In addition, the growing usage of antidepressants worldwide and increase in mental health disorders were shown in recent statistical analyses conducted by the World Health Organisation. The coadministration of caffeine and antidepressants remains a concern due to potential interactions that can alter a patient's response to therapy.

We aimed to assess the impact of splicing variants reported in our laboratory to gain insight into their clinical relevance. A total of 108 consecutive individuals, for whom 113 splicing variants had been reported, were selected for RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq), considering the gene expression in blood. A protocol was developed to perform RNA extraction and sequencing using the same sample (dried blood spots, DBS) provided for the DNA analysis, including library preparation and bioinformatic pipeline analysis.
