[reaction: see text] The preparation of depsi-peptides, amide-to-ester-substituted peptides used to probe the role of hydrogen bonding in protein folding energetics, is accomplished by replacing specific l-alpha-amino acid residues by their alpha-hydroxy acid counterparts in a solid-phase synthesis employing a t-Boc strategy. Herein we describe the efficient stereoselective synthesis of all 19 appropriately protected alpha-hydroxy acid equivalents of the l-alpha-amino acids, employing commercially available materials, expanding the number of available alpha-hydroxy acids from 9 to 19.

A series of α-hydroxy-alkylphosphonates and α-hydroxy-alkylphosphine oxides were synthesized by the Pudovik reaction of acetaldehyde and acetone with dialkyl phosphites or diarylphosphine oxides. The additions were performed in three different ways: in liquid phase using triethylamine as the catalyst (1), on the surface of AlO/KF solid catalyst (2), or by a MW-assisted NaCO-catalyzed procedure (3). In most of the cases, our methods were more efficient and more robust than those applied in the literature.

The cycloaddition of CO to epoxide (CCE) reactions produce valuable cyclic carbonates useful in the electrolytes of lithium-ion batteries, as organic solvents, and in polymeric materials. However, halide-containing catalysts are predominantly used in these reactions, despite halides being notoriously corrosive to steel processing equipment and residual halides also having harmful effects. To eliminate the reliance on halides as cocatalyst in most CCE reactions, halide-free catalysts are highly desirable.

Polyurethane (PUR) soft foams release malodorous and potentially toxic compounds when exposed to oxidative conditions. Current chamber test methods cannot distinguish between pre-existing volatiles and those formed during oxidation, nor can they assess the formation rates of oxidation products. We subjected PUR soft foam to oxidative treatment in a continuous air flow at 120 °C.

Studies have shown the ability of GA to stimulate fibroblast proliferation, induce collagen synthesis, and decrease collagen degradation. The VoluDerm radiofrequency microneedling (RFMN; Pollogen, Tel Aviv, Israel) utilizes an array of microelectrodes to penetrate the epidermis and deliver energy to the skin.

Crohn's disease (CD) is characterized by chronic ileal/ileocolonic inflammation, and in some cases, can result in bile acid malabsorption (BAM) and subsequent bile acid diarrhea (BAD). Although BAD is common in CD, diagnosis is difficult. In patients with CD who had ileal resection (IR), elevated serum 7a-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one (C4), a cholesterol-derived stable intermediate in bile acid synthesis, is associated with diarrhea attributable to BAM and therefore, may have diagnostic utility.
