Coronary flow reserve can be determined echocardiographically in the LAD in about 90 % and in the RCA in more than 80 % of patients respectively by the use of modern high-resolution ultrasound equipment. For this purpose either high frequency fundamental imaging or echo-contrast enhanced harmonic Doppler technology is used. The main advantage of the method lies in its noninvasiveness and the lack of radiation exposure. In combination with coronary morphologic findings obtained from heart catheterization, CFR is helpful in the planning of further invasive procedures for coronary artery disease and in the estimation of the prognosis of such procedures. The functional status after PTCA of LAD/RCA or mammary bypass surgery can be evaluated during follow-up monitoring. Alteration in the coronary microcirculation can also be discovered in a non-invasive way, improvement of microcirculatory disorders by adequate therapy can be assessed by serial measurements of CFR.

Objectives: Coronary CT angiography (CCTA) is an excellent tool in ruling out coronary artery disease (CAD) but tends to overestimate especially highly calcified plaques. To reduce diagnostic invasive catheter angiographies (ICA), current guidelines recommend CT-FFR to determine the hemodynamic significance of coronary artery stenosis. Photon-Counting Detector CT (PCCT) revolutionized CCTA and may improve CT-FFR analysis in guiding patients.

Objectives: The effects of acute physical exercise in patients with resistant hypertension remain largely unexplored compared with hypertensive patients in general. We assessed the short-term effects of acute moderate-intensity (MICE) and high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) on the clinic (BP) and 24-h ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) of patients with resistant hypertension.
Methods: Using a crossover randomized controlled design, 10 participants (56 ± 7 years) with resistant hypertension performed three experimental sessions: MICE, HIIE, and control.

We aimed to determine whether emergency department (ED) overcrowding affects the occurrence of in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) requiring resuscitation in the ED. This retrospective study was conducted in the ED of a single hospital. We applied the propensity score-matching method to adjust for differences in clinical characteristics in patients who visited the ED during overcrowded conditions.

The twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence is a rare complication associated with monochorionic twins. It is characterized by blood flow from the umbilical artery of the normal (pump) twin to the umbilical artery of the abnormal (acardiac) twin via artery-to-artery anastomosis. This condition is associated with 100% mortality in the acardiac twin and a high rate of perinatal morbidity and mortality in the pump twin, primarily due to intrauterine hypoxic injury, heart failure, and prematurity.

In coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), the use of the left internal mammary artery (LIMA) is considered the gold standard. The conventional technique of using electrocautery for LIMA harvesting is associated with adverse events. In this study, we used a different technique that combined carbon dioxide with electrocautery to harvest LIMA and compared it with the conventional electrocautery method.
