In 2023, Indonesia's Ministry of Health reported that nearly 75% of districts and cities in the country were free from malaria transmission, meaning 90% of the population lived in malaria-free zones. However, Papua Province, which accounts for only 1.5% of Indonesia's population, continues to contribute over 90% of the national malaria cases, with more than 16,000 reported cases in 2023.

Background: Malaria infection has caused a significant morbidity and mortality, notably in high-risk groups. Some evidence showed that ABO blood types might associate with malaria severity. This study aimed to determine the relationship between blood types and malaria severity in Papua, as Papua is a malaria-endemic area.

Criteria air pollutant exposure impacts human health through various pathways. Preterm birth (PTB) is one of the major adverse birth outcomes (ABO) associated with such exposure. Although numerous global and regional studies have been conducted on this issue, few have recently investigated the impact of major criteria air pollutant exposure on PTBs in Bangladesh, one of the world's most polluted countries with the highest relative PTB rate.

Background: Differing ABO blood groups between a mother and her fetus may confer a lower risk of serious neonatal infection. How sensitization in the first pregnancy influences this phenomenon in a subsequent pregnancy is unclear. Accordingly, this study determined whether maternal-newborn ABO blood group incongruence in a first pregnancy further modifies the risk of serious infection in a subsequent pregnancy marked by ABO incongruency.
