Excessive fibrosis is the primary factor for the failure of glaucoma drainage device (GDD) implantation. Thus, strategies to suppress scar formation in GDD implantation are crucial. Although it is known that in implanted medical devices, microscale modification of the implant surface can modulate cell behavior and reduce the incidence of fibrosis, in the field of ophthalmic implants, especially the modification and effects of hydrogel micropatterns have rarely been reported.

Elevated intraocular pressure associated with sauna use: A case report.

Purpose: To report a case of increased intraocular pressure following sauna use in a patient with severe-stage primary open-angle glaucoma.

Observations: A 64-year-old Hispanic male with severe-stage primary open-angle glaucoma experienced intraocular pressure spikes following sauna sessions, as detected in clinic and confirmed by a home tonometry device. The intraocular pressure spikes resolved after combined goniotomy and glaucoma drainage device implantation.

Patients And Methods: Retrospective chart review of adult patients with medically recalcitrant secondary glaucoma who underwent PGI implantation at a single tertiary center between August 2022 and June 2023. The primary outcome measure was surgical success.
