Background: The indiscriminate use of antibiotics has accelerated antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in (), emphasising the need to follow treatment guidelines. This study aimed to assess the rate of adherence to standard treatment among patients with gonorrhoea and identify influencing factors.

Methods: A survey was conducted in Guangdong province, China, involving uncomplicated gonorrhoea cases registered in the Chinese Information System for Disease Control and Prevention.

The incidence of gonorrhea has increased significantly in recent years in the United States, especially among sexually active twenty-year-olds. Although the incidence of gonorrhea has decreased in Korea since the early 2000s, it is still common among people in their twenties. Objectives: Resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae to all gonorrhoea therapeutic antimicrobials has emerged. Novel therapeutic antimicrobials are imperative and the first-in-class spiropyrimidinetrione zoliflodacin appears promising. Zoliflodacin could be introduced in dual antimicrobial therapies to prevent the emergence and/or spread of resistance.

Background: Provider adherence to the national treatment guidelines for gonorrhea is critical to assuring effective treatment. It is also an important means of limiting antibiotic overuse, which can lead to development of resistant bacteria. The Chinese treatment guidelines recommend the monotherapy with ceftriaxone or spectinomycin in accordance with the World Health Organization guidelines for treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea.

Objective: This study aimed to gain information on the antimicrobial susceptibility and molecular epidemiological typing of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) isolates in China in 2012.

Methods: A total of 244 NG isolates were consecutively recovered from patients with uncomplicated gonorrhea attending sexually transmitted disease clinics in 3 Chinese cities-Guangzhou, Nanjing, and Tianjin-in 2012. Neisseria gonorrhoeae susceptibilities to penicillin and tetracycline were examined by detecting penicillinase-producing NG (PPNG) and high-level tetracycline-resistant NG, and NG susceptibilities to ciprofloxacin, spectinomycin, ceftriaxone, and cefixime were determined using an agar dilution method.
