The specific role that prolactin plays in lactational infertility, as distinct from other suckling or metabolic cues, remains unresolved. Here, deletion of the prolactin receptor (Prlr) from forebrain neurons or arcuate kisspeptin neurons resulted in failure to maintain normal lactation-induced suppression of estrous cycles. Kisspeptin immunoreactivity and pulsatile LH secretion were increased in these mice, even in the presence of ongoing suckling stimulation and lactation.

HCAR2 Modulates the Crosstalk between Mammary Epithelial Cells and Macrophages to Mitigate Staphylococcus aureus Infection in the Mouse Mammary Gland.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Severe Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Key Laboratory for Zoonosis Research of the Ministry of Education, Institute of Zoonosis, College of Veterinary Medicine, Jilin University, Changchun, Jilin, 130062, China.

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a major zoonotic pathogen, with mammary gland infections contributing to mastitis, a condition that poses significant health risks to lactating women and adversely affects the dairy industry. Therefore, understanding the immune mechanisms underlying mammary infections caused by S.

The cure rate of Staphylococcus aureus mastitis by conventional antibiotic therapy is very poor. Diflunisal (DIF), a difluorophenol derivative of salicylic acid, is reported to have strong anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory effects against S. aureus infection.

This study sought to investigate the consequences of the induced feed restriction during the transition period on the mRNA abundance of genes entangled in lipogenesis and lipolysis in the tail adipose of fat-tailed sheep. Twenty fat-tailed ewes were randomised into the control (Control; n = 10) and restriction (Restriction; n = 10) groups. Control animals were fed 100% of the balanced diet pre-(Week -5 to parturition) and post-partum (parturition to Week 5).

Maternal high-fat diet orchestrates offspring hepatic cholesterol metabolism via MEF2A hypermethylation-mediated CYP7A1 suppression.

Cell Mol Biol Lett

December 2024

Department of Endocrinology, Peking University First Hospital, No. 8 Xishiku Ave, Xicheng, Beijing, 100034, People's Republic of China.

Background: Maternal overnutrition, prevalent among women of childbearing age, significantly impacts offspring health throughout their lifetime. While DNA methylation of metabolic-related genes mediates the transmission of detrimental effects from maternal high-fat diet (HFD), its role in programming hepatic cholesterol metabolism in offspring, particularly during weaning, remains elusive.

Methods: Female C57BL/6 J mice were administered a HFD or control diet, before and during, gestation and lactation.
