Early and accurate diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is key to effective outbreak management, and in humans thoracic radiography is used extensively for screening purposes. In wildlife TB radiography is a relatively accessible diagnostic tool, particularly in under-resourced settings, however its use is limited by body size. Sun bears are susceptible to human-associated TB, and their small body size makes thoracic radiography feasible.

Mechanical ventilation (MV) is a necessary lifesaving intervention for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) but it can cause ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI), which contributes to the high ARDS mortality rate (∼40%). Bedside determination of optimally lung-protective ventilation settings is challenging because the evolution of VILI is not immediately reflected in clinically available, patient-level, data. The goal of this work was therefore to test ventilation waveform-derived parameters that represent the degree of ongoing VILI and can serve as targets for ventilator adjustments.

Background: To analyze the clinical manifestations, diagnostic and therapeutic processes of perinatal tuberculosis in children, providing reference for clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the epidemiological history, clinical manifestations, laboratory and imaging findings, and treatment follow-up of 20 cases of perinatal tuberculosis diagnosed in the Second Department of Infectious Disease, Kunming Children's Hospital, from February 2014 to September 2021.
