Objective: Operative treatment of early onset scoliosis (EOS) with Magnetically Controlled Growing Rod (MCGR) in moderate-to-severe curves poses a challenge due to the limited amount of force and length available with the implant. The purpose of this study was to assess the use of the intra-operative internal spine distraction using Harrington Outrigger, before definitive implantation of MCGR, with regard to initial correction, maintenance of correction, truncal balance, and complication rates.

Patients And Methods: 16 EOS patients treated with the application of MCGR using the intra-operative internal distractor technique were included in the study.

Dopamine effects on memory load and distraction during visuospatial working memory in cognitively normal Parkinson's disease.

Neuropsychol Dev Cogn B Aging Neuropsychol Cogn

November 2021

Cognitive Neuroimaging Laboratory, Research Service (151), VA San Diego Healthcare System, San Diego, CA, USA.

Visuospatial working memory (WM) impairments in Parkinson's disease (PD) are more prominent and evolve earlier than verbal WM deficits, suggesting some differences in underlying pathology. WM is regulated by dopaminergic neurotransmission in the prefrontal cortex, but the effect of dopamine on specific processes supporting visuospatial WM are not well understood. Dopamine therapeutic effects on different WM processes may also differ given the heterogeneity of cognitive changes in PD.

Selective attention produces enhanced activity (attention-related modulations [ARMs]) in cortical regions corresponding to the attended modality and suppressed activity in cortical regions corresponding to the ignored modality. However, effects of behavioral context (e.g.

At Stołeczne Centrum Rehabilitacji Harrington method along with Weiss spring alloplasty has been introduced for fractured spine stabilization in the early seventies. A modified Bacal-Wierusz (BW) distractor has been mainly used to stabilize the spine after trauma related fracture. The paper presents neurological and radiological results of Harrington method used within thoracic and lumbar spine in 86 patients between 1973 and 1993.
