Accelerated atherosclerosis and increased cardiovascular risk are frequently reported in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome. In this article the authors attempt a review of the current understanding of the relationship between vascular risk and OSA syndrome based on large cohort studies that related the disease to several cardiovascular risk factors and vascular pathologies. We also discuss the pathophysiological mechanisms that may be involved in this relationship, starting with endothelial dysfunction and its mediators.

Based upon their clinico-experimental investigations the authors prove advantages of the two-component silicon compositions over oil preparations for the arrest of gastro-intestinal bleedings. Such compositions are recommended for patients whose treatment by traditional methods of hemostasis proved to be ineffective due to some causes which is often observed in elderly and senile patients.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA clinico-experimental investigation of the state of the coagulating, fibrinolytic and Kallikrein-Kinin systems of blood in the mechanical jaundice syndrome and different methods of its operative treatment has shown activation of these systems. In jaundice resulting from tumor of the pancreas head and Vater papilla activation of the coagulating system was prevailing while activation of the fibrinolytic and Kallikrein-Kinin systems prevailed in non-tumorous jaundice. The operative treatment aimed at the recovery of choledynamics resulted in normalization of the coagulating, fibrinolytic and Kallikrein-Kinin systems.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBased on the pathomechanism of diabetic retinopathy, the effect of photocoagulation on retinal microcirculation as assessed by measurements of retinal microcirculation magnitudes is discussed. The clinico-experimental results support the opinion that an essential effect of photocoagulation is due to an improvement in the flow conditions of the noncoagulated central retinal area with regard to metabolic exchange and stasis situation by the coagulation-induced occlusion of peripheral capillary areas. Further clinico-experimental measurements of retinal microcirculation magnitudes for the assessment of the behavior of microcirculation after photocoagulation in venous occlusive diseases of the retina are presented.
