Background: Clinicians in areas where malaria and typhoid fever are co-endemic often treat infected patients irrationally, which may lead to the emergence of drug resistance and extra cost to patients. This study determined the proportion of febrile conditions attributable to either malaria and/or typhoid fever and the susceptibility patterns of Salmonella spp. isolates to commonly used antimicrobial agents in Ghana.

Typhoid fever continues to be a health challenge in low-and middle-income countries where access to clean water and sanitation infrastructure is scarce. The non-confirmatory diagnostic method continues to hinder effective diagnosis and treatment, ensuring in a high antimicrobial resistance. This systematic review and -analysis aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence and antimicrobial susceptibility level of typhoid fever in Ethiopia.

Objective: To describe the demographic, clinical, laboratory and bacteriological profile of children with diagnosis of typhoid fever over a six-year period.
Methods: Case record analysis of hospitalized children (≤5 y) with culture positive typhoid fever.
Results: Blood culture was positive in 100 (61%) of 166 suspected cases, with 78 isolates of Salmonella Typhi and 22 Salmonella Paratyphi A.

Typhoid fever, showed a dramatic decrease in its incidence from 56 per 100,000 population just after Korea's independence to <1 per 100,000 population in 2000s. The clinical features of patients with typhoid fever in Korea were not too different from those reported in textbooks. Beyond cultures and Widal test, other diagnostic techniques such as string capsule culture and polymerase chain reaction have been tried in Korea.
