Zearalenone (ZEA) is a mycotoxin commonly found in moldy cereals and has a range of toxic effects that have seriously affected animal husbandry. Rutin, a natural flavonoid with antioxidant activities, has been studied for its potential involvement in mitigating ZEA-induced apoptosis in porcine endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) and its potential molecular mechanism, particularly concerning the expression of Nrf2. This study investigates the molecular pathways by which rutin alleviates ZEA-induced ESC apoptosis, focusing on the role of Nrf2.

Tea, one of the most popular beverages worldwide, generates a substantial amount of spent leaves, often directly discarded although they may still contain valuable compounds. This study aims to optimize the extraction of polyphenols from spent black tea (SBT) and spent green tea (SGT) leaves while also exploring their antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Response surface methodology was utilized to determine the optimal experimental conditions for extracting polyphenols from SBT and SGT.

The current research focused on extraction optimization of bioactive compounds from Strychnos potatorum seeds (SPs) using an eco-friendly glycerol-sodium acetate based deep eutectic solvent (DES). The optimization was accomplished using response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural networking (ANN). The independent variables included shaking time (A), temperature (B), and solvent-to-feed ratio (C), and the responses were the extraction yield, total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), antioxidant activity (DPPH), and antidiabetic activity (α-amylase inhibitory activity).

Valvular heart disease (VHD) poses a significant threat to human health, and the transcatheter heart valve replacement (THVR) is the best treatment for severe VHD. Currently, the glutaraldehyde cross-linked commercial bioprosthetic heart valves (BHVs) remain the first choice for THVR. However, the cross-linking by glutaraldehyde exhibits several drawbacks, including calcification, inflammatory reactions, and difficult endothelialization, which limits the longevity and applicability of BHVs.

The research is aimed at exploring the potential of marigold petal tea (MPT), rich in polyphenol contents, against oxidative stress and obesity in a rat model following a high-fat-sugar diet (HFSD). The MPT was prepared through the customary method of decoction and was subjected to analysis for its polyphenol composition using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). Two specific doses of MPT, namely, 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight (BW), were chosen for the study-referred to as MPT-250 and MPT-500, respectively.
