A gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric method was developed to determine eperisone hydrochloride, 4'-ethyl-2-methyl-3-piperidinopropiophenone hydrochloride, in human plasma over the concentration range 0.2-40 ng/ml. Excellent sensitivity was achieved by selection of a favorable fragment ion, m/z 98, of eperisone and reduction of heat decomposition of eperisone by using a splitless injector and a shortened capillary column. The method described here allows the determination of plasma concentrations as low as 0.2 ng/ml, the concentration attained 6 h after a single oral administration of 50 mg. At eperisone hydrochloride concentrations higher than 0.5 ng/ml, the mean inter-day variation of accuracy of the assay was less than 12%.

Auto-mechanics who often work without safety measures are vulnerable to the harmful effects of toxic metals like lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd). These toxic metals exert their deleterious effect by interacting with the micronutrients at their primary site of action. This study aimed to investigate the effects of toxic metal exposure on serum micronutrient levels of auto-mechanics in Nigeria.

Valsartan (VST) is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist with low oral bioavailability. The present study developed a solid self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system (S-SNEDDS) to enhance the oral absorption and bioavailability of VST. VST-loaded liquid SNEDDS (VST@L-SNEDDS) was prepared by investigating the solubility of VST and constructing the pseudo-ternary phase diagrams.

Inducible protein switches are currently limited for use in tissues and organisms because common inducers cannot be controlled with precision in space and time in optically dense settings. Here, we introduce a protein that can be reversibly toggled with a small change in temperature, a stimulus that is both penetrant and dynamic. This protein, called Melt (Membrane localization using temperature) oligomerizes and translocates to the plasma membrane when temperature is lowered.

Plasma tau phosphorylated at threonine 181 (p-tau181) and 217 (p-tau217) have demonstrated high accuracy for Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis, defined by CSF/PET amyloid beta (Aβ) positivity, but most studies have been performed in research cohorts, limiting their generalizability. We studied plasma p-tau217 and p-tau181 for CSF Aβ status discrimination in a cohort of consecutive patients attending an academic memory clinic in Spain (July 2019-June 2024). All patients had CSF AD biomarkers performed as part of their routine clinical assessment.

Fluid biomarkers play important roles in many aspects of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Huntington's disease (HD). However, a main question relates to how well levels of biomarkers measured in CSF are correlated with those measured in peripheral fluids, such as blood or saliva. In this study, we quantified levels of four neurodegenerative disease-related proteins, neurofilament light (NfL), total tau (t-tau), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and YKL-40 in matched CSF, plasma and saliva samples from Huntingtin (HTT) gene-positive individuals (n = 21) using electrochemiluminescence assays.
