Sickle cell anemia disease has been a great challenge to the world in the present situation. It occurs only due to the polymerization of sickle hemoglobin (HbS) having Pro-Val-Glu typed mutation, while the polymerization does not occur in normal hemoglobin (HbA) having Pro-Glu-Glu peptides. It is also well confirmed that the oxygenated HbS (OHbS) does not participate in the polymerization, while the deoxygenated HbS (dHbS) does, which causes the shape of red blood cells sickled.

There has been an explosion in the prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) because of the indiscriminate use of antibiotics. In this study, we repurposed hexestrol (HXS) as an antibacterial agent to fight planktonic and biofilm-related MRSA infections. HXS is a nonsteroidal synthetic estrogen that targets estrogen receptors (ERα and ERβ) and has been used as a hormonal antineoplastic agent.

Due to the harmful effects of estrogens and their prevalence in animal foods, accurate analysis of estrogen levels in animal foods is imperative in order to effectively assess food safety risks and ensure consumer safety. Therefore, a rapid and accurate method based on PRiME HLB solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridge purification and ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was developed to determine nine estrogen residues in bullfrogs. The nine estrogens included estriol (E3), 17-estradiol (-E), 17-estradiol (-E), 17-ethinylestradiol (EE2), estrone (EI), diethylstilbestrol (DES), dienestrol (DE), hexestrol (HEX), and dienestrol diacetate (DD).

Electronic waste (e-waste) pollution is of great concern due to the release of hazardous chemicals during the improper e-waste disposal. Many chemicals leached from e-waste were reported to pose estrogenic effects. To date, little is known regarding the occurrence and biological effects of estrogenic chemicals in sediments near an e-waste area.
