[Advantage of conversion of a uretero-ileostomy to a continent reservoir].

Published: November 1992

The authors refer their own experience in conversion of incontinent urinary diversion to a continent one. In 6 patients with ureteroileostomy they constructed continent reservoir. Reservoirs were formed from isolated ileocecal segment of the intestine together with the previous ileal loop. Continence was ensured by construction of a valve by method of ileal intussusception. After operation patients were followed-up clinically, biochemically and urodynamically, their subjective feelings and objective findings were analysed. Serious early or late complications were not registered during follow-up.

Successful staged surgery for advanced esophageal cancer after conversion pancreatoduodenectomy with pancreaticogastrostomy.

Clin J Gastroenterol

January 2025

Department of Gastroenterological Surgery and Pediatric Surgery, Gifu University Graduate School of Medicine, 1-1 Yanagido, Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture, 501-1194, Japan.

Background: Complex surgery during initial cancer treatment can limit surgical options when planning management of a secondary malignancy. Subtotal esophagectomy and pancreatoduodenectomy are the most invasive and difficult procedures in gastroenterological surgery. Surgical cases in which subtotal esophagectomy was performed after pancreatoduodenectomy with pancreaticogastrostomy are extremely rare and challenging procedures due to the resulting complicated anatomical changes.

Recent progress in digital microfluidics has revealed the distinct advantages of liquid marbles, such as minimal surface friction, reduced evaporation rates, and non-wettability compared to uncoated droplets. This study provides a comprehensive examination of an innovative technique for the precise, contamination-free manipulation of non-magnetic water liquid marbles (WLMs) carried by a ferrofluid liquid marble (FLM) under the control of direct current (DC) and pulse-width modulation (PWM) magnetic fields. The concept relies on the phenomenon in which an FLM and WLMs form a shared meniscus when placed together on a water surface, causing the WLMs to closely track the magnetically actuated FLM.

Unraveling the conversion mechanism toward spinel sulfides as cathode materials for Mg-ion batteries.

National Engineering Research Centre for Mg Alloys, Chongqing University, Chongqing 400044, PR China.

Rechargeable Mg batteries are promising candidates for achieving considerable high-energy-density. Enhancing the energy density can be achieved by integrating metallic Mg anodes with conversion-type cathode materials, which are characterized by multi-electron transfer process and elevated specific capacities in contrast to intercalation-type materials. Despite these advantages, the conversion-type cathodes still have some challenges of substantial volume expansion, sluggish diffusion kinetics and intricate mesophase evolution during repeated electrochemical reactions.

Background: This study aims to compare outcomes of colorectal cancer surgeries performed using the newly developed articulating laparoscopic instrument, ArtiSential, with those using conventional non-articulating or rigid laparoscopic instruments.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective, matched cohort study enrolled patients with colorectal cancer undergoing laparoscopic surgery in seven tertiary referral hospitals from January 2021 to October 2022. A 1:1 propensity score matching was performed between the articulating (Arti-LAP) and conventional (Rigid-LAP) laparoscopic groups.
