Background: The Chronic Ocular Pain Questionnaire (COP-Q) is a newly developed patient-reported outcome (PRO) measure intended to assess symptoms and impacts associated with Chronic Ocular Surface Pain (COSP). This study assessed the psychometric properties of the COP-Q to determine the adequacy of the COP-Q as a 'fit-for-purpose' instrument to derive trial endpoints for future clinical studies in COSP.

Methods: Patients with COSP completed the COP-Q daily for four weeks on an electronic, touch-screen, tablet device as part of a longitudinal, observational study in the United States (N = 124).

Grieving the loss of a pregnancy or a newborn involves deep and complex pain and entails certain particularities that make it different from other forms of grief. This study explores the role of memorial tattoos in the grieving process of mothers who have experienced perinatal and neonatal loss within the context of Spanish culture. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, testimonies were collected from 108 grieving mothers and analyzed through content analysis.

The correct selection of the stimulated site is the key to the effectiveness of acupuncture and moxibustion. In the present paper, we propose that in the treatment of Jingjin (muscle, tendon, fascia, ligament, etc.) disease, the stimulated position of acupuncture or moxibustion should be determined by careful examination, rather than only selection of the fixed acupoints.

Mechanical allodynia, the pain caused by innocuous tactile stimuli, is a hallmark symptom of neuropathic pain that is often resistant to currently available treatments. Cannabinoids are widely used for pain management; however, their therapeutic mechanisms for neuropathic mechanical allodynia remain unclear. Using transgenic rats that enable to optogenetically stimulate touch-sensing Aβ fibers in the skin, we found that the intrathecal administration of the synthetic cannabinoid, WIN 55,212-2, alleviated the Aβ fiber-derived neuropathic allodynia.

Background: In the intensive care unit (ICU), many patients are unable to communicate their pain through self-reporting or behaviors due to their critical care condition, mechanical ventilation, and medication (eg, heavily sedated or chemically paralyzed). Therefore, alternative pain assessment methods are urgently needed for this vulnerable patient population. The Nociception Level (NOL) index is a multiparameter technology initially developed for the monitoring of nociception and related pain in anesthetized patients, and its use in the ICU is new.
