Pancreatic β-cells are specialized in secreting insulin in response to circulating nutrients, mainly glucose. Diabetes is one of the most prevalent endocrine-metabolic diseases characterized by an imbalance in glucose homeostasis, which result mainly from lack of insulin production (type 1 diabetes) or insufficient insulin and peripheral insulin resistance (type 2 diabetes), both influenced by genetic and environmental components. Pancreatic β-cell dysfunction and islet inflammation are common characteristics of both types of the disease.

A lot of animal models are developed with aim to advance in atrial fibrillation (AF) understanding. The hybrid B6CBAF1 mice are used extensively as a background to create manifestation of various diseases, however, their atrial electrophysiology, autonomic sympathetic innervation of the heart and potential for AF investigation is poorly characterized. In the present study we used ECG and microelectrode recordings from multicellular atrial preparations to reveal attributes of atrial electrical activity in B6CBAF1.

Background: Despite advances in ART, implantation and pregnancy rates per embryo transfer still remain low. IVF laboratories strive to ensure that the process of handling gametes in vitro closely mimics the in vivo environment. However, there remains a lack of knowledge regarding the in vivo regulation and dynamic variation in biophysical parameters such as oxygen concentration, pH and temperature within the reproductive tract.

This short review describes the conceptual development in the search for the enteric neural circuits with the initial identifications of the classes of enteric neurons on the bases of their morphology, neurochemistry, biophysical properties, projections and connectivity. The discovery of the presence of multiple neurochemicals in the same nerve cells in specific combinations led to the concept of "chemical coding" and of "plurichemical transmission". The proposal that enteric reflexes are largely responsible for the propulsion of contents led to investigations of polarised reflex pathways and how these may be activated to generate the coordinated propulsive behaviour of the intestine.

The evidence is presented and on development of both adaptive and pathogenic changes in the heart in its regional ischemia followed by renewal of circulation in major branches of coronary arteries. Cellular and molecular mechanisms of cardiac changes are characterized: energy supply to cardiomyocytes; their membrane physico-chemical status and structure, enzymes activity, ion-liquid balance, electrophysiological parameters; genetic program of myocardial cells; mechanisms of neurohumoral regulation. Mechanisms and role of the phenomenon of hormone-neuromediator dissociation of catecholamines (adrenaline and noradrenaline) correlations in long-term ischemia and reperfusion of the myocardium are described.
