A physical optics formulation of Bloch waves and its application to 4D STEM, 3D ED and inelastic scattering simulations.

Acta Crystallogr A Found Adv

March 2025

Department of Physics, Durham University, South Road, Durham, DH1 3LE, United Kingdom.

Bloch waves are often used in dynamical diffraction calculations, such as simulating electron diffraction intensities for crystal structure refinement. However, this approach relies on matrix diagonalization and is therefore computationally expensive for large unit cell crystals. Here Bloch wave theory is re-formulated using the physical optics concepts underpinning the multislice method.

Introduction: Glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness, is characterized by optic neuropathy and retinopathy, with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) being the most prevalent form. The primary pathogenic mechanism of POAG involves elevated intraocular pressure caused by chronic fibrosis of the trabecular meshwork (TM). Autophagy, a critical process for maintaining cellular homeostasis, has been implicated in fibrosis across various organs.

Investigation of sexual life and perceived spousal support in female recipients after kidney transplantation.

January 2025

Division of Surgical Nursing, Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Istanbul Istinye University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Introduction: End-stage renal failure has negative effects on sexual life, and solid kidney transplantation helps to recovery in sexuality. However, recovery in sexual life progresses slowly, and female recipients may need spousal support during this process. To examine the perceived spousal support and sexual lives of female kidney recipients in the aim of this study.

Purpose In recent years, research on caregivers has highlighted the importance of integrating advanced technologies, such as wearable devices. Furthermore, when investigating the characteristics of persons with dementia (PWD), comparative analyses should be conducted based on the presence or absence of the condition. We aimed to elucidate the relationship between caregivers' subjective burdens, tasks, and heart rate (HR) using wearable sensors to objectively assess the health status of caregivers of PWD and older adults requiring long-term care.

Endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation (ECP) offers a viable alternative for managing advanced primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) in patients at risk of ocular hypotony. We describe a case of a successful outcome with ECP in a patient who developed ocular hypotony secondary to Preserflo surgery. A 93-year-old South Asian male experienced significant visual field deterioration and ocular hypotony following Preserflo surgery on the left eye, complicated by a severe cough from COVID-19.
