Article Synopsis
  • Skin cancer is prevalent globally, particularly melanoma, which can spread aggressively, making early detection crucial for successful treatment.
  • Researchers developed a new Deep Learning model called the Multi-Grained Enhanced Deep Cascaded Forest (Mg-EDCF) that classifies skin lesions into seven categories, improving diagnostic accuracy.
  • When tested against previous models using the HAM10000 dataset, the Mg-EDCF achieved an impressive average accuracy of 98.19%, surpassing existing state-of-the-art algorithms.

Skin cancer is a malignant disease that affects millions of people around the world every year. It is an invasive disease characterised by an abnormal proliferation of skin cells in the body that multiply and spread through the lymph nodes, killing the surrounding tissue. The number of skin cancer cases is on the rise due to lifestyle changes and sun-seeking behaviour.

Article Synopsis
  • - Morphea profunda (MP) is a chronic autoimmune disease that leads to restricted skin movement and discomfort, while dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a rare, slowly growing tumor that can invade deeper tissues and has a tendency to recur locally but rarely spreads to other parts of the body.
  • - A 39-year-old female patient had a brownish lesion diagnosed as MP at 20, which later developed into palpable nodules, leading to further evaluation and a new diagnosis of DFSP after deep biopsy and immunohistochemical analysis.
  • - The patient underwent complete surgical removal of the DFSP tumor, followed by additional excision due to inadequate initial margins, and has shown no signs of

Solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) is an uncommon spindle cell tumour of mesenchymal origin characterised by NAB2-STAT6 gene fusion. Although it was first described in the pleura, it can occur in connective tissue in any part of the body, but rarely presents in the orbit and ocular adnexa. SFT, which is part of the same disease spectrum as other fibroblastic tumours such as giant cell angiofibroma, haemangiopericytoma and fibrous histiocytoma, usually presents as a painless, slow-growing mass in any age group and generally follows a benign course, with a good prognosis after complete excision.

Article Synopsis
  • - Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a type of disease caused by the excessive growth of certain immune cells, categorized into different forms based on whether it affects one or multiple systems of the body.
  • - The term "self-healing LCH" has become less common since it’s difficult to guess if the disease will resolve on its own or spread at diagnosis.
  • - A review of 81 reported cases of solitary congenital Langerhans cell histiocytoma suggests that these cases generally resolve on their own without systemic issues, indicating a potentially good prognosis, but further studies are necessary to confirm this.
