Verbs such as think, know, remember, and guess play a pivotal role in understanding, monitoring, and transformation of internal states. We focus on the specific words as think and know, polysemous cognitive verbs that show hierarchical organization and high frequency of use in children's and adults' lexicons. According to Booth and Hall's model, think and know present a conceptual organization that involves low conceptual levels (perception, memory, comprehension) and high conceptual levels (evaluation, metacognition, planning). The aim of this research was to study the relationship between children's comprehension of text processing and the conceptual levels of the above-described verbs. The research concentrated on 9-, 11-, and 13-yr.-old children's ability to understand think and know. Analysis yielded a strong relation between knowledge at the conceptual level of these verbs and reading comprehension skills. Moreover, it highlights the importance of this linguistic competence in skilled readers.

Aim: To carry out a detailed study of existing positions in the French public of the acceptability of refusing treatment because of alleged futility, and to try to link these to people's age, gender, and religious practice.
Method: 248 lay participants living in southern France were presented with 16 brief vignettes depicting a cancer patient at the end of life who asks his doctor to administer a new cancer treatment he has heard about. Considering that this treatment is futile in the patient's case, the doctor refuses to prescribe it.

Recruits are exposed to high levels of psychological and physical stress during the special forces selection period, resulting in dropout rates of up to 80%. To identify who likely drops out, we assessed a group of 249 recruits, every week of the selection program, on their self-efficacy, motivation, experienced psychological and physical stress, and recovery. Using linear regression as well as state-of-the-art machine learning techniques, we aimed to build a model that could meaningfully predict dropout while remaining interpretable.

Previous investigations have shown pitch-based correspondences with various perceptual and conceptual attributes. The present study reveals two novel pitch-based correspondences with highly abstract concepts. Three experiments with varying levels of implicitness of the association task showed that the concepts of future and in are associated with high-pitch sounds, while past and out are associated with low-pitch sounds.
