This study examined the relationship between implant center volumes and survival rate for implantation of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices. Using the Novacor left ventricular assist system (LVAS) Registry, the study cohort consisted of 1,348 patients with established outcomes from 97 centers stratified by the implant center volume: 1-10 implants (n = 199, 65 centers), 11-25 implants (n = 189, 12 centers), 26-50 implants (n = 445, 13 centers), and more than 51 implants (n = 515, 7 centers). Regression and correlation analyses were performed. Regression analysis found a negative impact on survival for centers performing 1-10 implants, with an odds ratio of 1.73 (95% confidence interval, 1.28-2.34; p < 0.001). Composite results from the first 10 implants of each larger volume center were then compared with the group with 1-10 implants, demonstrating that centers with larger volumes had superior results, even in the early patient experience (61% versus 46% transplanted/weaned, p < 0.001). However, when annualized outcomes (i.e., outcomes by calendar year) were determined for each center, no significant correlation was found between the outcomes and annualized frequency of implantation (R2 = 0.003, n = 422). Although the total number of implants performed at a specific center appeared to impact clinical outcomes, no correlation was found between annualized frequency of implant and clinical outcome.

Objective: The pedicle screw insertion technique has evolved significantly, and despite the challenges of precise placement, advancements like AR-based surgical navigation systems now offer enhanced accuracy and safety in spinal surgery by integrating real-time, high-resolution imaging with virtual models to aid surgeons. This study aims to evaluate the differences in accuracy between novel AR-guided pedicle screw insertion and conventional surgery techniques.
Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted from March 2019 to December 2023 to compare the efficacy of AR-guided pedicle screw fixation with conventional freehand surgery using CT guidance.

Background: Reports on the durability of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) prostheses are scarce and confounded by varying definitions and competing risks of death.
Objectives: The authors sought to determine the incidence, predictors, and clinical outcomes of hemodynamic valve deterioration (HVD) according to the Valve Academic Research Consortium 3 definition after TAVR.
Methods: We analyzed consecutive patients undergoing TAVR in the prospective Bern TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) registry between August 2007 and June 2022 for the incidence and predictors of HVD and performed case control-matching to compare outcomes according to HVD.

Although implants have undergone a remarkable development over the past decades, modern implants still show complications that make the improvement of materials necessary. The presented study investigates the load-bearing capacity of an experimental dental implant made of a niobium alloy (Nb1Zr) compared to identical implants made of Ti6Al4V using chewing simulation for artificial aging. Eight implants each with an experimental design were manufactured from Nb1Zr and Ti6Al4V.

Purpose: The high mortality rate of breast cancer motivates researchers to search for effective treatments. Due to their ability to simulate human conditions, xenograft models such as CDX (Cell line-Derived Xenografts) and PDX (Patient-Derived Xenografts) have gained popularity in pre-clinical research. The choice of xenograft technique is influenced by the type of tumor employed, particularly in more aggressive tumor models like TNBC with metastases.

Adipose tissue engineering requires effective strategies for regenerating adipose tissue, with adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) being favored due to their robust self-renewal capacity and multipotent differentiation potential. In this study, the efficacy of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) mesh containing collagen sponge (CS), seeded with ASCs to promote adipose tissue formation, was investigated. PLLA-CS implants seeded with GFP-positive ASCs were inserted at high concentration (1 × 10 cells/implant, H-ASC) and low concentration (1 × 10 cells/implant, L-ASC), as were unseeded controls.
