Published: February 2004

Eight white-rot fungal strains were screened for biodecolourisation of eight dyes commercially employed in various industries. Decolourisation of Poly R 478 was used as a standard to ascertain the dye-decolourisation potential of various fungi. All the fungi tested significantly decolourised Poly R 478 on solid agar medium. When tested in a nitrogen-limited broth medium, Dichomitus squalens, Irpex flavus, Phlebia spp. and Polyporus sanguineus were better industrial dye decolourisers than Phanerochaete chrysosporium.

Article Synopsis
  • Effective electrochemical sensing requires a balance between optimal signal output and sensitivity, which this study addresses by creating a modified screen-printed electrode (Nafion-PSS/SPE) using two sulfonate-rich polymers.
  • The Nafion-PSS/SPE was successfully employed to detect lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) through square wave anodic stripping voltammetry, achieving low detection limits (6.478 ppb for Pb and 5.277 ppb for Cd) and high selectivity against interfering ions.
  • This research highlights a simple screen-printing method for mass-producing heavy metal sensors and provides valuable insights into the electrode's surface properties to improve analytical performance.

Conductive polymers have attracted much attention in various applications, owing to their excellent chemical, thermal, and oxidative stability. However, they have low dielectric constant, which limits their performance in electrochemical devices. To overcome this drawback, blending with other polymers helps improving their electrochemical properties.

Objective: To evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of niraparib in Japanese women with heavily pretreated ovarian cancer.

Methods: This was the follow-up analysis of a phase 2, multicenter, open-label, single-arm study in Japanese women with homologous recombination-deficient, platinum-sensitive, relapsed, high-grade serous epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer who had completed 3-4 lines of chemotherapy and were poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitor naïve. Participants received niraparib (starting dose, 300 mg) once daily in continuous 28-day cycles until objective disease progression, unacceptable toxicity, or consent withdrawal.

The misuse of chloramphenicol (CAP) has jeopardized environmental safety. It is critical to create an effective and sensitive CAP detection technique. In this paper, a composite of chitosan (CS)-derived carbon material modified hollow spherical hydroxylated poly(3,4-propylenedioxythiophene) (PProDOT-2CHOH) was designed, which innovatively used o-phenylenediamine and p-aminobenzoic acid as bi-functional monomers to prepare molecular imprinting polymer (MIP) sensors for highly sensitive analysis and determination of CAP.

Increasing evidence highlights the negative effects of microplastics (MPs) on crops and bio-based plastics offer an alternative to conventional plastics. However, there is limited knowledge on the impacts and mechanisms of bio-based MPs on crop physiology. In this study, bio-based polylactic acid (PLA) and petroleum-based MPs [polyamide (PA) and polypropylene (PP)] were added to hydroponic cultures planted with rice (Oryza sativa L.
