The bromination/dehydrobromination reactions of ethyl 3-[1-alkoxycarbonyl-2-(methylthio)indolizin-3-yl]acrylates were reinvestigated. Reactions of the title compounds with two equivalents of bromine, followed by heating of the resulting reaction mixture and then treatment with a base gave the unexpected dialkyl 7-bromothieno[2,3-b]indolizine-2,9-dicarboxylates, while similar reactions using benzyltrimethylammonium tribromide as a brominating agent afforded only non-brominated thieno[2,3-b]indolizine derivatives, which were converted to the corresponding 7-bromo derivatives upon further treatment with bromine.

Heteroatom-embedded helical nanographenes (NGs) constitute an important and appealing class of intrinsically chiral materials. In this work, a series of B,N-embedded helical NGs (BN-HNGs) bearing azepines was synthesized via stepwise regioselective cyclodehydrogenation. First, the phenyl- or nitrogen-bridged dimers were efficiently clipped into highly congested model compounds 1 and 2.

NIR-absorbing and emitting α,α-nitrogen-bridged BODIPY dimers with strong excitonic coupling.

Three new distinct NIR α,α-NH-bridged BODIPY dimers were prepared by a direct nucleophilic substitution reaction. The synergistic effects of the nitrogen bridges and strong excitonic coupling between each BODIPY unit play major roles in enhancing the delocalization of an electron spin over the entire BODIPY dimers. The formed aminyl radical dimer showed an absorption maximum at 1040 nm.

A convergent route toward nitrogen-bridged BODIPY oligomers has been developed. The synthetic key step is a Buchwald-Hartwig cross-coupling reaction of an α-amino-BODIPY and the respective halide. Not only does the selective synthesis provide control of the oligomer size, but the facile preparative procedure also enables easy access to these types of dyes.

Reaction of 2-chloromethyl-1H-benzimidazole with known intermediates (i-iii), prepared from diaminoguanidine hydrochloride with salicylaldehyde, 5-bromosalicylaldehyde or 3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylaldehyde, in the presence of triethylamine (NEt) led to the formation of benzimidazole appended new ligands, HL-HL (I-III). The homogeneous nitrogen-bridged symmetrical binuclear complexes, [(MoO)(L)(HO)] (1), [(MoO)(L)(HO)] (2) and [(MoO)(L)(MeOH)] (3) have been isolated by reacting these ligands with [MoO(acac)] in a 1 : 2 molar ratio in refluxing methanol. Using 1 : 1 (ligand to Mo precursor) molar ratio under above reaction conditions resulted in the corresponding mononuclear complexes, [MoO(HL)(MeOH)] (4), [MoO(HL)(HO)] (5) and [MoO(HL)(MeOH)] (6).

A three-component method is described for the preparation of -1,2-disubstituted bridged bicyclic compounds. The reaction was demonstrated for readily available aromatic and heteroaromatic C-H bond substrates with tertiary and secondary amide, lactam, pyrazole, and triazole directing groups and a variety of bridged bicyclic alkenes, including norbornene, benzonorbornadiene, oxygen- and nitrogen-bridged analogs, and an unsaturated tropinone. A broad dioxazolone scope was also observed.
