Background: Schwannoma is a well-defined, usually benign tumor arising from the Schwann cells in the nerve sheath. It can present in any location as a solitary mass; however, it is rarely found in the pelvis.

Case: We report a 40-year-old female patient with a pelvic mass, which revealed tubal schwannoma after complete resection of the mass and uterus by laparotomy.

Conclusion: Schwannomas are thought to result from a proliferation of perineural cells. Although origin along the nerves of the retroperitoneal space is not uncommon, these tumors rarely present as pelvic masses.

Background: Aggressive digital papillary adenocarcinoma (ADPA) is a rare skin adnexal tumor with a predilection for the hand. The presentation, treatment, and outcomes of ADPA remain poorly defined due to the scarcity of reports and low-level evidence of published findings.

Methods: We performed a meta-analysis following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines with the intent to provide hand surgeons a better understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

Introduction: Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is a screening and diagnostic modality frequently used in the emergency department to assess patients with abdominal pain.

Case Report: We present a case describing the unusual finding of intraperitoneal fluid with loculations visualized in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen in a patient ultimately diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) with ruptured tubo-ovarian abscess caused by group A streptococcus (GAS), a pathogen rarely implicated in the disease.

Conclusion: Uncommon findings on abdominal POCUS should trigger further investigation.

Department of Surgery, School of Medicine, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Hospital Universitario San Ignacio, Bogotá D.C., Colombia.

Article Synopsis
  • Extra ocular sebaceous carcinoma is a rare and aggressive tumor that arises from sebaceous glands, accounting for about 25% of sebaceous carcinomas, and is often challenging to diagnose due to its atypical appearance.
  • A 69-year-old woman was diagnosed with a sebaceous carcinoma on her back, which presented as a large, ulcerated lesion, and was confirmed through a biopsy; she underwent surgical excision and sentinel lymph node biopsy.
  • This case highlights that sebaceous carcinoma can appear in unusual locations, such as the back, and underscores the importance of surgical intervention as the primary treatment method, while noting that sentinel lymph node biopsy may be a less invasive alternative for staging.
