AneuRx stent-graft failure four years after TAA exclusion.

Published: February 2004

Purpose: To present a case of graft material disruption 4 years after thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) exclusion with the AneuRx stent-graft.

Case Report: In 1999, a 62-year-old man underwent successful exclusion of a descending 98-mm TAA with 2 AneuRx stent-grafts. A type I distal endoleak was diagnosed 1 month later, and a distal extension cuff was placed just proximal to the celiac trunk. One year later, a new endoleak was discovered (presumed to be type II); the patient refused proposed thrombin injection to seal the leak. The diameter of the aneurysm enlarged gradually, and in 2003, he presented with a ruptured TAA and a massive left-sided hemathorax. The patient underwent urgent open surgical repair using extracorporeal circulation; the 3 stent-grafts were removed. Unfortunately, the patient died from cardiac failure 2 days later. Macroscopic examination showed several disruptions of the graft fabric and a stent fracture, which presumably explains the endoleak and rupture.

Conclusions: This case reaffirms the necessity of long-term stent-graft surveillance.

Background And Objective: A consensus exercise was carried out to address unmet needs in the classification, diagnosis, and management of patients with chronic noninfectious uveitis affecting the posterior segment (NIU-PS), with a focus on chronic postoperative inflammation/cystoid macular edema.

Methods: Eight experts participated in roundtable discussions and consensus-building exercises to develop clear guidelines for the diagnosis and management of chronic NIU-PS. The group addressed questions surrounding clinical features, diagnostic tests, and treatment considerations.

Background: Endovascular repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA) in elective settings has demonstrated successful clinical outcomes. However, life-threatening conditions such as rupture are more often managed with open surgical repair due to the high complexity of arch endovascular repair, lack of available off-the-shelf devices, and limited long-term data.

Case Summary: A 49-year-old female with a recent history of prior ascending aortic repair for Type A aortic dissection presented with chest pain and dyspnea.

The global adoption of remote thyroidectomy is increasing, with the transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) and transareolar approach (TAA) emerging as predominant methods. However, existing meta-analyses comparing these approaches to operative surgeries and short-term postoperative complications have significant limitations. To address this gap, our meta-analysis provides a comprehensive comparison between the TOETVA and TAA, focusing on operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage, and hospital stay duration.

Staged vs concurrent hardware removal in total ankle arthroplasty.

Arch Orthop Trauma Surg

February 2024

1st Orthopaedics and Traumatologic Clinic, IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli, Via Cesare Pupilli 1, 40136, Bologna, Italy.

Introduction: Ankle osteoarthritis is more commonly posttraumatic. Consequently, dealing with hardware removal is quite frequent when performing a total ankle arthroplasty (TAA). The purpose of this study is to compare outcomes regarding either a staged or concurrent hardware removal when performing TAA.

•In this review, we described different murine models of carcinogenesis: classic models, new transgenic and combined models, that reproduce the key points for HCC and CCA genesis allowing a better understanding of its genetic physiopathological, and environmental abnormalities. •Each model has its advantages, disadvantages, similarities, and differences with the corresponding human disease and should be chosen according to the specificity of the study. Ultimately, those models can also be used for testing new anticancer therapeutic approaches.
