Published: February 2004

YloQ is a putative ATP/GTP-binding protein of unknown function identified from the complete sequence of the Bacillus subtilis genome. A gene-knockout programme established that yloQ is one of a set of some 270 indispensable genes for the viability of this organism. Crystals of YloQ have been grown from HEPES-buffered solutions at pH 7.5 containing polyethylene glycol and diffraction data have been collected extending to 2.5 A spacing.

The biting midges Latreille, 1809 (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) is highly relevant to epidemiology and public health, as it includes species that are potential vectors of human and animal arboviruses. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of RNA viruses in species of the genus collected in the Carajás mining complex in the state of Pará. The biting midges were collected in the municipalities of Canaã dos Carajás, Curionópolis and Marabá and morphologically identified.

Hantaviruses are zoonotic pathogens associated with severe human diseases such as hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Despite the extensive study of rodent-borne hantaviruses, research on bat-associated hantaviruses remains limited. This study aimed to investigate the seroprevalence and cross-reactivity of neotropical bat samples with rodent- and bat-associated recombinant hantavirus nucleoproteins (rNPs) to improve hantavirus surveillance in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest.

The Known and Unknown of Global Tick-Borne Viruses.

Viruses

November 2024

Key Laboratory of Virology and Biosafety and National Virus Resource Center, Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan 430071, China.

Ticks are crucial vectors for various pathogens associated with human and animal diseases, including viruses. Nevertheless, significant knowledge gaps prevail in our understanding of tick-borne viruses (TBVs). We here examined existing studies on TBVs, uncovering 870 documented virus species across 28 orders, 55 families, and 66 genera.

This paper proposes the fixed-time prescribed performance optimal consensus control method for stochastic nonlinear multi-agent systems with sensor faults. The consensus error converges to the prescribed performance bounds in fixed-time by an improved performance function and coordinate transformation. Due to the unknown faults in sensors, the system states cannot be gained correctly; therefore, an adaptive compensation strategy is constructed based on the approximation capabilities of neural networks to solve the negative impact of sensor failures.

Integrating Vision and Olfaction via Multi-Modal LLM for Robotic Odor Source Localization.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Computer Science, Louisiana Tech University, 201 Mayfield Ave, Ruston, LA 71272, USA.

Odor source localization (OSL) technology allows autonomous agents like mobile robots to localize a target odor source in an unknown environment. This is achieved by an OSL navigation algorithm that processes an agent's sensor readings to calculate action commands to guide the robot to locate the odor source. Compared to traditional 'olfaction-only' OSL algorithms, our proposed OSL algorithm integrates vision and olfaction sensor modalities to localize odor sources even if olfaction sensing is disrupted by non-unidirectional airflow or vision sensing is impaired by environmental complexities.
