September 2024
Clinical Epidemiology Unit, Orthopedics, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences Lund, Lund University, Lund, Sweden. Electronic address:
Objective: To assess the 5-year effects of arthroscopic partial meniscectomy (APM) vs. placebo surgery on the development of the structural changes of the knee by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Design: This multicentre, randomized, participant- and outcome-assessor-blinded, placebo-surgery-controlled trial was carried out in Finland.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of nerve decompression on pain in patients with lower extremity painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).
Background: Currently, no treatment provides lasting relief for patients with DPN. The benefits of nerve decompression remain inconclusive.

February 2024
Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Oslo University Hospital, Norway.
Background: Minimally invasive fusion of the sacroiliac joint as treatment for low back pain may reduce pain and improve function compared to non-operative treatment, although clear evidence is lacking. The aim of this trial was to evaluate the effect of minimally invasive sacroiliac joint fusion compared to sham surgery on sacroiliac joint pain reduction.
Methods: In this double-blind randomized sham surgery-controlled trial patients with clinical diagnosis of sacroiliac joint pain confirmed with sacroiliac joint injection were included at two university hospitals in Sweden and Norway.

October 2022
Division of Sports Medicine, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, New York University Langone Health, New York, NY, USA.
Purpose Of Review: Given the continued controversy among orthopedic surgeons regarding the indications and benefits of arthroscopic partial meniscectomy (APM), this review summarizes the current literature, indications, and outcomes of partial meniscectomy to treat symptomatic meniscal tears.
Recent Findings: In patients with symptomatic meniscal tears, the location and tear pattern play a vital role in clinical management. Tears in the central white-white zone are less amenable to repair due to poor vascularity.

December 2021
From the Department of Surgery, St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne, The University of Melbourne, Melbourne, VIC, Australia.
Objective: To investigate the factors underlying willingness to participate in a hypothetical trial among patients and surgeons, to inform the design of future placebo surgery controlled trials.
Background: Placebo surgery controlled trials are the gold standard for testing the efficacy of surgical procedures. However, these trials commonly fail to meet the target sample size and terminate underpowered.
