Cataracts remain the major cause of blindness and acuity of vision deterioration in the elderly. To date there are no effective methods of preventive measures of this disease and surgical removal of cataract-damaged lenses remains the only way to restore vision. To explore cataract pathogenesis and development methods of its prophylaxis are necessary fundamental investigation, which is impossible without biological models. As the first Russian her senile cataract model it is suggested to use the senescence-accelerated OXYS rat strain which was developed 30 years ago by selection and inbreeding of rats Wistar susceptible to cataractogenic effect of galactose (Institute of Cytology and Genetics, Novosibirsk). We conducted strong selection by the early cataract during 13 generations of OXYS rats. As the result at present time changes of OXYS rat lens appear by the 2 month, at 6 months these changes appear in 100% of animals (in rats Wistar--5%), at 12 month cataract affects both eyes. The data suggest that the cataract in rats OXYS develops simultaneously with progressive macular degeneration while changes of the eye lenses morphologically correspond to senile cataract in man.

Introduction: Cataract is a leading cause of visual impairment globally and in Malaysia, with surgery being the definitive treatment. While intracapsular cataract extraction (ICCE) is now less commonly performed due to advancements in surgical techniques, it remains essential in specific cases, such as those with weak zonular support. This study aims to evaluate the incidence, clinical profiles, and visual outcomes of patients who underwent ICCE, with or without intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, at Hospital Melaka, Malaysia, over the past decade.

The topic of the timing of the manifestation of age-associated diseases (as an indirect indicator of accelerated population aging) after the transfer of COVID-19 remains an urgent area in scientific research. Early targeted diagnosis can significantly reduce the consequences of pathology, in connection with which the features of the manifestation of various nosologies in the post-COVID period were studied. The materials were the accounting and statistical data of the municipal polyclinics of the Sakhalin Region for the pre-COVID (2017-2019) and post-COVID (2022-2023) periods.

Purpose: To study change in the contact of intraocular lens (IOL) with the posterior capsule with respect to the vertical versus horizontal orientation of the haptic-optic junction of the IOL using intraoperative spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).
Methods: Fifty eyes of 50 patients with senile immature cataract underwent topical phacoemulsification procedure with implantation of a monofocal IOL by a single experienced surgeon. The Rescan 700 SD-OCT system was used for intraoperative imaging.

Background: Oculocutaneous albinism is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by congenital melanin deficiency, resulting in hypopigmentation of the eyes, hair, and skin. This study included a Chinese family with an oculocutaneous albinism pedigree, in which the proband presented with oculocutaneous albinismcombined with secondary angle closure, which has been rarely reported in previous literature. This article primarily focused on the clinical and genetic examination results of this patient and provided recommendations for ophthalmologist to treat patients with oculocutaneous albinism in clinical practice.

Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of combined phacovitrectomy versus sequential phacoemulsification and vitrectomy in patients with both senile cataract and epiretinal membrane (ERM).
Methods: A retrospective multicenter study was conducted between 2014 and 2022 at two hospitals in Italy. Patients with idiopathic ERM and senile cataract in the same eye were enrolled and underwent either combined (n=38) or sequential surgery (n=38), performed by a single surgeon.
